“There is something about meeting someone new that will blow what you think of life away.”
Finn was born in the land of Light, though his parents were more of the traveling sort than true denizens of the place. Finn inherited their desire to see the world beyond the sundial, and when his parents went their way to the land of the Icewarden, Finn knew that was where their paths must diverge. Fortunately for Finn, he knew his way around inter-clan negotiations and bargained his way to joining a clan as their ambassador to other clans. He was treated like a prince, and in return he did the same for them. Though he was quite happy, the rest of his clan decided that it was just about time for Finn to solidify his place in the clan: find a mate and settle down. Finn wasn’t opposed to the idea, so he went along with it only insofar as he found a lady who liked him quite as much as he liked her. Finn had never met so many beautiful Coatls, and even Wildclaws and Imperials, who styled themselves as being important to their clan or others. Remembering his humble beginnings in the shadow of the Sundial, Finn turned away the princesses and kept an eye open for a dragon like him. Eventually, he found Cheryl, a lovely Coatl who, like him, had been hatched to mean circumstances but by virtue of her friendly and helpful personality had found herself in an important position in the clan. Finn and Cheryl together have many friends, but no friends quite so good as each other. Finn’s life exists not so much in finding the truth, but in making it. As the clan’s diplomat, he seeks to arrange circumstances in order to create the best possible outcome, both for his clan and for their allies. He is quick-thinking and circumspect, both Light dragon traits, which has helped him put his clan in the good graces of many other nearby clans, both dragon and beast. He hasn’t come across a problem he couldn’t solve yet, but he knows he must never let his guard down. One never knows if their greatest challenge is just around the corner. ..... Light spilled in the window, crossing Finn’s face. He blinked in the sudden brightness, and shifted away. It was about time to be leaving, anyway. He had to get ready to meet the representative from the nearby Centaur herd. Centaurs weren’t usually ones to stand on ceremony all decorated with gold and jewels, but looking a little nicer than usual never hurt anything. Cheryl looked up at him as he was about to leave. “Good luck,” she crooned before he could get out. Finn chuckled. “Thank you. I don’t think I’ll need it, though. I’ve met with this particular Centaur before, and she’s very reasonable.” “You’re reasonable,” Cheryl threw back with a playful grin. “Well, we have been expanding and some of our hunters have taken to hunting on land that is, ostensibly, theirs.” Finn shook his head with a small smile. “I can imagine our leaders wouldn’t be as forgiving if our situations were reversed?” Cheryl seemed to take that into consideration, and shrugged. “If our situations were reversed, that would be somewhat odd, wouldn’t it? Cymeri is as large as… well, I don’t know how many Centaurs. He is much larger than any single Centaur, though.” Finn nodded with a grin. “This is true,” he agreed. “But we are also smaller than Cymeri. It wouldn’t make us very happy to have to always give up everything just because we’re smaller.” Cheryl shook her head with a smirk. “No. But don’t you forget that Cymeri is bigger than you.” Finn laughed. He had no fears from their Imperial leader, but Cheryl was right. His first duty was to his clan. It was all a part of the fine line that he walked, finding a solution that was agreeable to everyone. He believed that it was possible for everyone to be happy, even if they didn’t get everything they wanted. It just took some creativity sometimes.
