Uh-oh, looks like this candy baby wandered a little too far from his home lair (260889, SleepingCactus), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to the home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful! ;RETIRED TRAVELERS MEMBERSHIP CARD ; ;Dragon name:CHERRYBOMB ; ;Retired Traveler number: 3 ; ;Lairs visited:see owners I had ; ;Lore information: see below ; Owners I've Had: SleepingCactus, 260889 ShepherdOfFire 220519 MightyVildaTilda, 204687 Spooner, 45393 Korozo, 50395 StarlineRose, 214878 FelicisNox177,172583 CaughtGaming, 260134 Strukla, 90706 XxAsrielDreemurr 177258 Harbinger, 3280 howlerwolf, 313913 TheAquaWaves 557244 Sekine (#567762) Alligatorsight, 118679 grxndsxn, 437722 Sekine (#567762, second time!) |
He didn't make it far from home at the start of his journey. From the sundial terrace to the Hewn city. His wings were still weak and only just out from his egg. The unsturdy flight had crash landed him into a tree where he became quite stuck. He wasn't sure how long h'd been stuck up there since he'd fallen asleep, until he felt someone gently tugging on him. Horrified at first he was face to face with a group of wildclaws that were out hunting. He thought they intended on eating him but once freed he was gently curled into the arms of a female. She told him that she was the clan's leader and that they were going to take him back to their home. He was far to young to be out on his own. Once he was old enough he'd have a better chance of surviving out there alone.
Cherry set off from the wildclaws after a while, making it all the way to the Southern Icefields before he crashed again. Despite having been a bit older, he was still a youngling and his wings couldn't carry him that far.
He was tired and cold when he came across the hunting-party from Valhall. They seemed mildly amused as Cherry told them his story, but offered him a place to stay until he could recover some energy. And so, he went to Valhall with them. The small city within the walls of ice was full of dragons of all sized and Cherry couldn't help but enjoy it, staying perhaps a bit longer than needed as he explored everything he could find there. All the stands of the traders and the culture and, most of all, the hilarity that was Hrimfaxi. Cherry's bright colors had caught the attention of the Nocturne right away and they spent quite some time together, simply wasting time and enjoying the life of fun.
But eventually, Cherry knew he had to move on. So he bid them all farewell and figured he could just write back, at some point, so he set off again without guilt. There was a whole world out there, after all.
His next stop on his journey was the city of Anville. He'd been wishing to visit the Ashfall Wastes and learn the art of firework crafting for himself. He loved to watch them, certainly, but to be able to craft his very own- it was all he'd dreamed of.
He found himself an apprenticeship with a renowned artisan who taught him the basics of fireworks. He learned what materials would produce which colors, how to make them fly high, how to make them make noises (the ones that whistled were his favorites). Unfortunately, he didn't quite learn anything about when fireworks were considered appropriate. He would fire them off indoors, in crowded areas, anywhere he pleased. CherryBomb began living up to his name in the most worrying of ways.
He was eventually sent away from Anville for his antics, but that didn't bother him much. The rest of the world had yet to see his art and he wished to share it with as many dragons as he could. After all, who doesn't love a good firework display?
The dragons of the Reedcleft Ascent sure loved his fireworks display! Cheers and clapping greeted his first firework show, and Cherry had never been happier. They encouraged him to follow his firework-making dreams, perhaps the dragons of Anville couldn't handle it, but this was a different land, governed by an excitable and enthusiastic god. He fit in with the Wind dragons quite well, he found. There was even one named Firecracker! Cherrybomb thought he could stay forever.
And he perhaps would have, if it had not been for that one fateful night.
Cherry was excited to test run his new firework, which should have the biggest explosion yet, and such a colorful explosion it would be! The clan took precautions and forbid all dragons from traveling in the skies that night, just to be safe.
All dragons.
The display was as magnificent as everyone had hoped, the biggest explosion of record, for sure! The sparks flew in every color of the rainbow! Why, some of them even changed color!
A bright ember smacked into something flying through the night sky, a pained squawk echoed through the ravines, and something caught fire, falling into the ocean far below. Everyone craned their necks, trying to see what it was, but were forbidden from getting closer, due to the fire hazard.
It was a Corven scout, from the nearby Talonok Beastclan, which the dragons had finally made peace with.
But the Talonok saw their burned brethren and declared war on the clan of dragons. They attacked, and many died in that battle. Cherrybomb was driven away. Fleeing into the night he wondered, who would take him in now?
Cherry ran towards the Sea of a Thousand Currents where he met an odd looking Wildclaw named Briolette. Soon enough, though, the two separated and he was back on his way.
The tides of the sea soon swept Cherry back into Wind’s domain. One night, looking for shelter, he wondered into the camp of a small clan of artisans. They welcomed him with open arms, and thankfully without much question as to his past.
He felt at home once more, among oddball artisans. He became particularly good friends with Eos, a taxidermist who wore a dead frog on his head. Cherry seemed to be the only one that found it as amusing as Eos did. He told Eos about his craft, and the imperial encouraged him to sell at one of their markets. Cherry agreed one weekend, setting out small firecrackers and mortars for dragons to buy. He was so nervous! What if they hated it? What if another creature got hurt because of them?
His worries were for nothing, it seemed. The dragons of the wind territory loved his craft! They even gave suggestions for new fireworks. It was also a nice change to have a treasure flow coming his way. The clan’s curator, Guacamole, showed Cherry how they handled the markets money, and, seeing as the skydancer didn’t seem a permanent vendor, how to handle his own.
Another roamer, like Cherry, was staying with the clan. Starlight, the most beautiful dragon Cherry had ever seen. He tried his best to woo her. One night he created a huge fireworks display, just for her! But she didn’t appreciate it like he thought she would. She soon left, much to his dismay. Soon after, he, too, decided it was time to move on. Given new confidence and new money know how, he planned on selling his fireworks across Sorenth. If he could make at least one dragon Happy with his craft, then he’d be happy!
As he kept on travelling through the Windswept Plateau, the ever blowing winds carried him from place to place. Soon enough, he grew tired of fighting the air currents and landed on the nearby cliffs. It was getting late either way. In the distance were signs of life, some dragons lazing around and in general, what seemed like a small Clan, but Cherrybomb was too tired to drag himself over.
He wasn't sure how long was he sleeping for, but chatter of voices woke him up. There were a few dragon hatchlings rummaging through his bags filled with fireworks. "Hey, don't touch that!" The four got so startled they ended up knocking each other down while trying to escape.
Cherry simply shook his head, chuckling. "Sorry, sorry... I just wanted to say those things are dangerous. You could hurt yourself if you accidentally set them off." Four pair of curious eyes looked back at him. It was obvious they didn't understand a thing about how could some sticks and powders be dangerous.
"Here, let me show you. Stand back. Way back." He placed a few of the already made fireworks on the ground, positioning the rockets towards the sky. This time he checked if there would be anyone flying but the sky was clear. And there it was, another light show, produced entirely by him. The little one's stared in awe before squeaking and jumping with joy. The colors illuminated everything around in red, blue, yellow... You name it, it was there. Cherry grinned at the sight.
In the morning, when he once again woke up, he found a small stack of coins next to him, as well as some food and other trinkets. "Must be payment for last night's show.", he thought to himself. The hatchlings were nowhere to be seen, but the older dragons of the Clan in the far distance were already up and about.
Cherry flew back up and went on his merry way, content with the way things turned out last night.
Cherry's next journey took him back to his homeland and to the edges of the Hewn City where he met the clan of the Harbinger. There he found himself to be quite the center of attention, both intentionally and not. When he arrived, he insisted on doing a fireworks show to pay them for room and board, which got him quite the fanfare. The next day, he was approached by the alchemist Argyria, who was quite interested in learning all the chemistry that went into the fireworks Cherry had crafted. They were joined by Thunraz, a dragon already infamous for her explosions and apparently needing more.
He met a young Coatl named Bubblegum who was enchanted by his displays. The two became close and, when Cherry decided it was time to move on, she followed.
It was odd at first traveling with another dragon, Cherry had never done it before. But there was something comforting knowing that no matter what places the pair would end up, they’d always recognize at least once face.
But luckily for Cherrybomb and Bubblegum, there wasn’t much standing out at the next lair. The arcane clan had loads of pink dragons like them, like Sugarspun, Creampuff, and Milkshake! Who all had names to the pair also!
On the first night they threw a party where Cherybomb set up some fireworks, it was especially enchanting since a lot of the dragons had never seen fireworks, though it was a little off putting for a few so they’re weren’t many other firework shows after that, but it was still a nice time!
They got to know everyone at the clan really well and stayed for perhaps longer than they planned.
After leaving the previous clan, Cherrybomb and Bubblegum joined up with a group of traveling merchants making their way towards the next domain. Here, Cherrybomb tried to be the alchemist's, Stein's, assistant as a way to pay for the duration of their travel with the caravan. Bubblegum got lucky and found work helping the group chef.
Cherrybomb found Stein insufferable. Stein's lack of housekeeping skills bothered him. Having to clean up after Stein day after day, being sent on errands, and being told what to do with not a pinch of gratitude from the scientist wore him down.
At the next major stop, he slipped away in the middle of the night. He felt bad that he was leaving Bubblegum behind but he knew she would be fine on her own. I'm sure we will meet each other again, he thought to himself.
Cherrybomb was leaving Windswept Plateau and as the sky dancer flew past the beach he discovered an island just off shore in the Sea of 1,000 Currents.
On the island Cherry met an eternal hatchling guardian. "Welcome to Atlanta Island" said the guardian. "On this island is a cave. Inside the cave are some rapids which lead you to the City of Atlantis which lies on the Sea floor near the Spiral Keep." Cherry did not have much of an interest in visiting underwater cities much less taking a water ride to get there. "I think I will pass on the cave, but I have something I would like to show you." retorted Cherry. "By the way my name is Cherrybomb and you are..." " AmazingGrace " the guardian answered.
Later as night fell Cherrybomb prepared for a really pretty fire works show. The skydancer had all kinds of fire works set up along the beach. When the sun went down the skydancer pulled a fuse on one one of the fireworks and using his dragon breath to breah fire, lit the fuse. Almost right away, there were shooting bottle rockets. Some took off making whistling sounds. Others exploded into colorful displays. Some made a crackling sound as they drew lines in the sky. For the finality, hundreds of fireworks lit up the sky. The light from the fireworks was so bright, it almost looked like day. The explosions lasted for about a minute and a half. When the show was over, the entire clan of Alligator Clan applauded begain to chant "Alligatorsight" "Wait" retorted Cherrybomb, "I recognize that. That is the chant of a Lightning Flight Clan." "Correction" retorted a blue nocturne "Alligator Clan left The Shifting Expanse a long time ago and we now live in Water Flight territory. The Sea of 1,000 Currents is our home now.
Suddenly, a choir began to sing
" Gotta reach the SSSSSeaaaaa
It's our destineeeeeeeee
Through Ashfall, I won't burn
Wind Swept Plateau Winds will turn
Shifting Expanse will find me
But I gotta reach the sea
Sornieth will prepare
Dear Tide Lord hear our prayer
Gotta reach the SSSSSSSSSSSea
It's our destineeeeeeeee
"These dragons sure are loyal to the Tide Lord" the skydancer thought. He wondered what caused them to leave Shifting Expanse, but then again all that mattered was that they loved his fire works display.
When Cherry Bomb returned to his room in the Water Flight Embassy located in the underwater city of Atlantis, there was an announcement and Cherry seemed to be the subject of it. Cherry has set a new record for the most traveled dragon to visit Alligator Clan. The previous record holder had come to Alligator Clan back when they resided in Shifting Expanse and had been to 12 lairs in his career. Cherry had been to 14. Alligator Clan was number 15.
Cherry had spent so little time in Alligator Clan, but felt like he had accomplished so much. The skydancer enrolled into Alligator Clan University of Flight for a semester and leveled up to a level 10 grinder and purchased a condo in the retired traveler's den in Alligator Clan, but decided he wanted to travel to a few more lairs before retiring.
