Biography

DARKWING
tumblr_nxrb94r3fH1rkbcjno1_250.png Fire demons aren't very pleasant things, they are rarely even mentioned- and few know of them. What most don't know is that most fire demons are truly innocent, so helpful with no sense of right and wrong, helpless against crying pleads and terribly easy to influence.

This is why Fire Demons are often misunderstood. This is what drew a clear white line against a dark black void between the races.

Now, there came a day where a young demon-barely a minute old opened his tiny little pink eyes, as the broken pieces of the shade approached him. The demented fragments of the shade's soul swirled around the young demon, screeching-no, begging for help. Help with what? You may ask.

Interesting question you got there, indeed. Help with reforming and collecting back the fragments. Help with fusing and merging the pieces back together, to give power and life back to the shade again- those were the pleads of the demented fragments.

And as a Son of the shade, what could the demon do? Especially as a fire demon- oh, their hearts were the weakest-and the most fun to rake out and play with, if only to the shade itself.

But like a grain of sugar hiding in a great pile of salt, it isn't always obvious when one is entirely different. Of course, this demon was most unusual. His name was Darkwing.

Darkwing's unusualness had been there even from the beginning. Unlike most fire demons, birthed when a fragment of the shade fused with a blazing flame, Darkwing was birthed when Arcane magic fused with a shade shard. He didn't, and still doesn't really know what had happened then, but he knew he was an oddity, and he was told that an Arcanic Mage Drake had been practising magic nearby, only to accidentally send a spell flying to the scene of the fusing.

Unlike those that would just succumb to those horrendous pleads, unknowing of what would happen, Darkwing was, well, say, more intelligent. He only shook his tiny head, as his bright neon Arcane pink eyes shone and he slowly flapped his wings and slowly wandered away, as if possessed or preoccupied. The Shade could only frown, for his Arcane instincts were already showing. That want- no, need to adventure and discover, the ignoring of others when he saw opportunity-it was obvious, for no other dragon except one had such passion.

Indeed, it wasn't just any Mage that had interrupted the fusing. It was the smallest deity of all, the Arcanist.

Darkwing grew up a curious drake, kind to other demons, but cold and heartless towards the Shade and the Guards of the cells they were kept in. Darkwing was powerful and knew all sorts of tricks, but ones that were most used were blocking out of the illusions the Guards and Shade always made so he would obey. He wasn't so weak compared to the others, he knew.

While his fellow Demons were sent off to quests willingly, which ultimately aimed to reform the Shade, Darkwing would only shake his head and decline time again and again. When questioned by other demons, he would only smile and look up to the sky, giving the same answer every time without fail,"We are but a part of this world, too , why waste our lives working for someone else when we can make ourselves better?"

Even the Shade couldn't force him, for if it did, Darkwing might betray him.

And while everyone were on quests, what was he doing? He was searching. He would escape the lair without a trace, like a shadow in the day, for he was a shadow, indeed. A mere shadow of the Shade. He would explore the nearby places, and search for artifacts of any kind, and from there ,attempt infer life beyond the lair- or rather, dungeon.

Of course, Darkwing's curiosity only grew. He knew that there were many more lands beyond the dark shore, and something in his heart kept tugging at him. He had grown utterly desperate to find out what lay beyond the clear shoreline, for he was never allowed out of the dungeon. About here you will probably point out:"But he can escape the dungeon to nearby places! Why can't he go further?" Well, going to nearby places meant he could slip back in before evening with ease, so no one would notice. Travelling to other lands? He would probably only be able to come home the following day, which would pose big problem.

So Darkwing decided to play safe. But similar to a piece of metal, sitting in fire, no matter how strong the metal, it would still bend and break with a larger, hotter blaze.

When Darkwing was a month old and still hadn't accepted any quests, the Shade was absolutely furious. It had provided Darkwing with sufficient food and a home to live in, yet he was so unwilling to do anything in return.

"Darkwing. Your quest is to…" the Shade growled, knowing that Darkwing would reject him again. And indeed, before he managed to say the next word, Darkwing shook his head once again,"I will refuse, for I am a busy demon." The Shade was infuriated,"BUSY? With what?! You arrogant fool! You are no child of mine! Scram!"
"I never wished to be your child. I am, actually, Glad to hear you say that." Darkwing tilted his head and spoke his mind coldly.
"Darkwing! You moron!! You're just asking for trouble! I will kill you for this, brat!"
"Kill me? For what? I spoke only the truth and nothing else." Darkwing heaved a false, deep, heavy sigh.
"Then, you shall explain. Say it loud and clear, demon of the dark." The Shade snarled.
"You never treat us as children, only as slaves. You yell at us like we are dogs, but you're just all bark. You hold us as if we are hostages, unwilling to let us out of the lair-or should I say, dungeon. You do not know most of our names, with the exception of myself and a handful of others. You have not been a Father, to me or anyone else!" Darkwing snapped in two and screamed.

And that was the first time the Shade actually felt sympathy. It knew it could not fall weak, but he couldn't bring himself to kill Darkwing after that either. The Shade only looked Darkwing in the Eye. "Leave." He whispered. "What was that?" Darkwing could barely even hear it.
"I SAID LEAVE! LEAVE THIS LAND AND NEVER RETURN! YOU ARE NO LONGER A CHILD OF MINE! GO! FLY ACROSS LANDS AND NEVER COME BACK, CHILD OF ARCANE!" It spat as it's voice echoed through the eternal night, unthinking.

"Seriously?" By now, Darkwing was nothing short of excited, evident due to the rapid fluttering of his head fins, but still somehow maintained his cold tone. And with a roar, the fragments started spinning and lumping together quickly and angrily, so fast Darkwing could barely see…

Then, the Shade turned into a dark mist, and came flying at him. Darkwing couldn't dodge it, of course. The mist felt like tiny glass shards, shattering against his scales, jabbing him painfully, yet he knew that it wasn't painfully, really. Darkwing had learnt to block out the illusions.

But still, it seemed more realistic than ever.

He saw something red drip from his fins… Only then, he realised, fire demons didn't have blood.

But he did.

Which meant he was freed of the clan, but also exiled. He wasn't a part of the world he'd known all his life anymore. He was not a Fire Demon, he had been transformed into a mortal object, he was…

Darkwing suddenly felt something stabbing him in the wing, painfully. He let out a screech. The illusion was so strong, it went beyond thoughts and dreams.

It was real now.

Darkwing never bothered to learn true magic Nor illusions. He knew all this from his powerful blood. He realised, only now, that he had survived on his arcane instincts all along. Then he felt a sense of dense helplessness.

A shard pieced through his head.

His fin.

And another in his neck.

He could only remember that final pierce in his heart as he realised that he had truly underestimated the shade. That he had no where else to go. Yet, as he fell to his subconsciousness, he was certain he heard a voice, quiet but clear, say: Go to the land where you hail.
Darkwing awoke in unfamiliar surroundings. The place was horribly dark, yet speckles of light covered the dark canvas. Something bright flew past him. Then another. Darkwing did not know what they were, where he was, but he loved everything about it. He wanted to flap his wings and zip around, for the area surrounding him looked infinitely endless.

As he stretched a wing, he yelled in pain. His wing were torn, and blood soaked them. Eventually, this would stain his wings and become a permanent marking for life.

The scrutinising pain made Darkwing realise that he had been here before. Not the same spot, but the same place.
"Beautiful scenery, is it not?" A gentle, lovely voice spoke from behind.
Darkwing spun around, surprised to see a pink fae, with the same set of pink eyes, beaming happily at Darkwing. She gazed at the sparkling scenery and smiled.
"Y…yes! Where is this, though? Who are you, are you a demon as well?" Darkwing asked, tilting his tiny head slightly.
"Where is this? My! You're a child of Arcane! How can you not know?! This is the galaxy, the cosmos above our world... I'm Runewing, and I am definitely not a demon, my! How funny you can be! Am I that scary and mean?" Runewing laughed.
"G…galaxy? I heard that word before! The rest of your reply, I don't exactly understand. I am Darkwing, and I'm a fire demon. What Demon are you? How come you have a… is that a heart? Your heart isn't even fire, your heart is full of magic…" Darkwing frowned, confused.
Runewing froze.
Ten seconds passed before she spoke again."This isn't funny. You, a demon?"
"Of course! What else can I be? You haven't answered my question yet!" Now Darkwing was truly confused. He had been held hostage all his life, he knew nothing about the outside world.
"Captis Orbis!" Runewing screamed in alarm. Her Gold collar glowed, and then, a pink orb formed around Darkwing, trapping him. Darkwing panicked and screeched, to no avail. Apparently the orb was sound proof or something, because Runewing was able to ignore the loud racket Darkwing was making. She shouted," Operation Novula, type 2!"

A flash of blue blinded Darkwing, and he blacked out. Poor Darkwing, as stupid as he had been, you couldn't blame him, he was unaware of other species out there, or the world too.

Darkwing only awoke to the sounds of clattering chains.

He heard distant high pitched sounds, echoed through the… well, place.

Again, he did not know where he was.

It was quite obviously a cave with tunnels, but Darkwing had never seen one before. Couldn't blame him, again. A nocturne stomped to the door.

He had lifeless yellow eyes, vines tangled in his scales. "Demon, aren't you?" The nocturne growled with his deep raspy voice. Darkwing was slightly scared by the nocturne, but took in a deep breath, and replied,"Yes… what's so unusual about that? I'm a fire Demon, aren't you a Denon too? Your heart is cold, there's no blaze. You must be a demon, just not a fire one." The nocturne looked stunned and coughed,"Darkwing, was it? I'm not supposed to talk to prisoner demons like you, but I think we will… get along well. I'm Wistwing. Half demon." Wistwing said in response.

After that, Wistwing would visit Darkwing daily and chat with him. They got along well. Runewing didn't visit much, but every week or so, she would come down and talk to Darkwing awkwardly, asking him some questions about his past and everything about himself. Every now and then, the screeching of some other insane prisoner would echo through the caverns. Darkwing would flinch, but Runewing would only get up bravely and walk towards the prisoner.

Darkwing was kind towards them. He knew he was being kept prisoner, but he didn't really care. They were talking to him, and he had started to take a tiny liking to Runewing as she visited more and more often.

One day, Wistwing came to him and smiled slightly. Darkwing had knew from chatting with him that he was infected by a demon, but really is a drake, making him half dragon half demon. Wistwing wasn't supposed to feel emotions, so something really big must have happened for him to smile.

"Darkwing. Nice to see you again. Good news." The Half Demon spoke. Darkwing got up from the crystal ground and tilted his head, questioning. "Unleash the chamber! Latin" Wistwing roared as the gate of Darkwing's chamber opened immediately. "Welcome to Clan Novula."

"C…clan Novula? Isn't that the name of your clan…?" Darkwing was stunned. He had expected to be released sooner or later, but being accepted as a demon in the clan?

"Indeed… you are but a demon, Darkwing. But you have done nothing wrong. I see honesty in your fiery heart, and kindness in your native eyes. You have never conceded defeat, even to the Shade itself. The enemy of dragon kind. You show strength and promise, if only there were more of you… And before I continue, I should truly introduce myself. I am Rune-Cometrix wing, but I am better known by Runewing. I am the leader of clan Novula. I hereby accept you into Clan Novula, if only you agree… " Runewing flew in and spoke, tears of admiration glistening in her large eyes.

Darkwing's eyes widened. And what did you expect? He was welcomed into Clan Novula, and he obviously had accepted that invitation.
In the home of Clan Novula, Darkwing studied and learnt about magic, artefacts, runes and countless other things about the world. Darkwing was evidently a keen learner, he loved everything about studying. He grew knowledgeable, and a great wielder of magic.

Often, he studied with Runewing, who, after she got used to him, turned out to also be super hyperactive, smart, curious and a lover of experimenting( now you know what's going on if you randomly hear explosions within the clan). As the two considerably young dragons eventually grew up together, and something that Darkwing had never imagined happened.

Yup.

You guessed it. They, of course, had children and were eternal mates. They had spoken untold promises, only within the bounds on the two. This act was called Rune Bonding in the clan, and they had the Rune Bond. Darkwing loved Runewing for her kindness and courage, and Runewing loved Darkwing for the same reasons.

Remember what was said about Runewing being the Clan leader? Well, as the mate of Runewing and a powerful magic wielder, Darkwing was made into the second in hand, but the Dragons of Clan Novula still know him as a Clan leader for his bravery.

Both Runewing and Darkwing fight in the first line of defence at the battlefield. Individually, they were incredibly strong and powerful. Runewing was great as a Mage. She cast spells that would heal and protect, spells that would blast comets and control space.

However, Darkwing's magic was slightly, well, Dark. His spells could cast one into a state of insanity, even by accident. He could freeze one in time and Shadetouch them by accident. He could kill, but he only did it once, an incident he refused to speak of, for he didn't exactly want to live up to his name.

But everyone has a Dark side, and of course, a drake with the first name Dark obviously had one.

Son of the Shade? Indeed. The Shade is an abstract, figurative thing, it can controls minds and touch things. That would be all the more easier with one of your own blood. After those months together with Runewing, Darkwing believed he would be safe, that no harm would befall him. He had entirely forgotten about his bitter past, for he now has something else to focus on: family.
Runewing had taught him how to defend himself from all kinds of things, from dark sprits to dangerous creatures.

Everyone else said it was a waste to be so skilled yet only have a role in protecting just one tiny clan in the observatory. But in truth, Runewing had something else planned out for a Long time.

"Darkwing! Tomorrow we set off for adventure!" Squealed Runewing one day.
"So… so suddenly?" Darkwing stuttered. Runewing never mentioned this.
"I didn't tell you? Oh well, you know about the tales of my mother( see clan lore), and you know I'm the only child, so I decided to set off to find her soul!" Said hyperactive Runewing.
Darkwing couldn't help but smile at her adorableness, he understood why Runewing wanted to go but why did he have to go too…

Then it hit him. Runewing was saying she might never see him again.
And Darkwing agreed.

For years they didn't come back, their journeys filled with adventure! In this time, 2 new leaders came to reign over the clan, Wispywing and Royalwing.

Their journeys were filled with adventure. Fun. New things.

But every dragon would know, even the smallest hatchlings, that within forests, icebergs, flames, the ocean and others, theives and bandits lurked. After all, they were gone for who knows how many dragon years.

They were flying, as normal, across the land of shadows. Tricksters, pranksters- whatever you called them. They were always present in the area, so when branches were snapped, Rune and Dark were not surprised or scared at all. Shadow dragons were friendly.

The couple was chatting animatedly when Dark could swear that he saw a pair of bright yellow eyes, watching them from behind a tree.

“Um… Runewing?”

And whoever it was watching them lunged.

No, change that. Everyone who had been watching them lunged.

Ten dragons, Darkwing counted as he and Rune were attacked by the bandits.

A two to one ratio, not looking good.
