"We sink down, down." ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ The Sea spit Ruark out. He could almost fool a Water dragon, with eyes a sharp blue that matches their currents and their Lord. But he could not fool the Sea itself, not when it can find every crack and crevice in a dragon, no matter how well hid. The Ice in his blood could not find home in the domain of the Water dragons, not for very long. How Ruark found himself in the Sea of a Thousand Currents isn’t entirely certain, and it will likely remain that way. Instead, one will hear how he drifted through the many rivers and currents of the Windswept Plateau, then crossed the water to the Icefields. How he swam until his arms and legs grew sore, until the colour of his eyes stopped matching the lagoons of the Sea and started to match the ancient glaciers that dots the waters of the Icewarden’s domain. They will hear of how he could lose himself in the water, how on a calm clear night, the stars in the sky match the stars reflected on the water, and match the starlight flickering in his wings. What is Ruark? A dragon, a creature, a lost hatchling. He loathes company that is considered other and more and more this seems to include everyone who isn’t his mate, Euria, a skydancer who with unshakable ghosts clinging to her scales. What is Ruark but a creature of the sea, that cold bitter sea that is the home of Ice dragons? If he is not afraid of the dark, then he cannot be afraid of himself, he reasons. He cannot be afraid of the dark. |
