Pearlcatchers will perish if they get too far from their pearls, or so Oil was taught. When a Pearlcatcher strays too far then their own body would start to destroy itself from the inside. A morbid thought, but it's what drove Oil to be a perfectionist. Anything unnecessary was cast aside to make room for efficiency.

He was born to high court parents from a different clan. His mother, Sinlarra, being one of the eldest in their realm. She instructed him from a young age to carry his pearl while welding heavy axes and battle poles. She had ensured that his hands and feet were strong as iron so his grip on his pearl would not falter. In her eyes, a pearlcatcher with no pearl is as worthless as the soil beneath her claws.
