Biography
Villura
Quiet | Rash | Stubborn | Quick | Warrior
"I was once fourth daughter to a proud water clan king, destined for nothing. Some may see my loss of family, clan, of even myself as something to pity, but I do not need pity. I am now a proud warrior, reborn to a new purpose with allies who do not expect me to sit quietly and do nothing of value. My sister may stay out of guilt of the terrible fate she believes she caused, but given the choice I would never return to my old life."
Villura comes from a very traditional water clan somewhere in Fishspine Reef. A matriarcal society, the Queen would choose a mate to be her king until death. Sons they hatch aren't heirs, but generals, priests, or may leave to find another clan. The first three daughters, however, have important roles to play. The first daughter is destined to rule as the next Queen upon her mother's abjugation or death. The second daughter is groomed as an adviser to the first. The third must sacrifice her sight and become the next high priestess upon reaching maturity. Daughters born after the three are allowed no roles as they cannot be allowed to draw any attention away from the sacred first three daughters. If one of the first three daughters should perish, a new daughter will be born to take their place. Villura, then named Tethys, was the fourth borne daughter. Her days were filled with court gossip and feasts. She could do nothing but eat, talk, or pray to the tidelord. All day she heard about all the wondrous things her three older sisters were doing and quickly grew very jealous of them. It was a miserable existence, but she took her duty, or lack thereof seriously and stubbornly did what was asked of her. Her sister Calypso was the third daughter. She was about to come of age and have her sight taken to be elevated into the priesthood. Terrified and unwilling to make her sacrifice, she fled the clan. The clan mourned her loss as though she was dead and set to planning a new hatching. Outraged, Villura set off to hunt her ungrateful sister down. She chased Calypso through the realms of the Tidebringer, through much of the Plaguebringer's domain until she reached the very heart of it, the Wyrmwound. Tethys approached the edge of bubbling lake...and, entranced by the movement, stuck a claw into the bubbling pool. Horrific pain racked through her body, forcing her to lay curled up on the ground in front of the lake for two full days. When she could finally stand she felt very different... Her body was covered in pustules, her once gorgeous wings were left in rotted tatters, and she could feel no connection to the water magic that used to course through her veins. Perhaps...more? Confused and afraid she started to run, paying no mind to what direction she headed. Before long she heard screaming in the distance. Snapped out of her near trance state she changed course and ran towards the sound. Then she could see, far off into the distance, a roving band of harpies attacking her older sister. Enraged, she barreled towards them. Fueled only by white hot rage she swiped hard at the first harpy she saw and felt the jarring impact and then the tearing of flesh beneath her claws. Whirling around she snapped her jaws down over another harpy, feeling her teeth crunch bones like sticks. The remaining harpies finally recovered from the initial shock of her charged and regrouped to attack her. Even with their coordinated assault Villura gracefully danced among them, slashing, biting, and smashing them with her tail. All the while her precious pearl danced effortlessly between her claws and tail as she attacked. Calypso stared in awe at the scene before her, face bleeding. Within seconds every last harpy lay dead around the two pearlcatchers. "T-Tethys? Is t-that you?" Calypso managed to stutter, still cowering on the ground. Tethys stared at the blood coating her claws, tasted it in her mouth still. She felt...wonderful. Stronger and faster than she had ever been...and how? How had she done that? The transformation...must have changed her more than she realized. Finally, she spoke. "Yes sister it is I. But I am no longer Tethys--I am Villura." |
