Karenai MODEST | COMPASSIONATE | ANXIOUS | TACTFUL | WRY Archivist/Hatchling Caretaker

Karenai was deported to one of the larger cities in Earth territory when he was very young, where he was trained as a scroll sorter in one of the major library's archives. He grew up resentful of the job he was forced into, and as soon as he scrounged up enough funds he left in an attempt to make his own life for himself.

He had always been fascinated by tales of ghosts and folklore, so it was not surprising that he chose to remain with Transistor and Denali as their records keeper after the two merchants had signed their contracts with SABRI to work out of the Hewn City. Despite his past loathing for the job, Karenai fell into the familiar role of archivist upon reaching the research outpost due to their frankly dismal file organization system. He does lots of odd jobs around the clan, including an ongoing project to teach everyone in the outpost basic sign language, and has eagerly volunteered to take care of any hatchlings that grace the compound.

• Gets flustered easily
• Has a surprisingly good singing voice
• Always wears flower crowns after the hatchlings started making them for him, and makes his own when the nursery is empty
• Is really good at picking up languages, and is fluent in most sign languages.
• The only thing he actually enjoyed about his old job were the uniforms; he thought they were very flattering. His current wardrobe is made to mimic that style.
• Has the biggest crush on Serif, exacerbated by the fact that he's the scribe's designated sign language instructor.

Other dragons often wonder how Karenai tolerates the mischief that hatchlings inevitably get themselves involved with all the time. His secret trick to rein them in when they get too rowdy or go over the line?: "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed."



Kareni has definitely made flower crowns for other dragons, including but not limited to Serif. Some of the dragons happily accept them and wear them around while others will take them and ditch them the second he leaves. Kareni refuses to believe no one could love a flower crown (such flower! Much pretty!) and so will continue to give them to others.
