When clan visitors first enter the main lair of the Cloud Steppes Clan, they often hear a beautiful flute and lute, as well as a lovely voice moving so rapidly through tunes that it's clear the musicians are improvising. The flute sound in this medley is created by the clan Bard Coaxtl. The music, while it doesn't serve a clear practical purpose, is encouraged because of its "uplifting" and "positive" properties.

Coaxtl, the most eccentric of the small band, also attempts to give musical lessons to interested clan members; however, his obsession with fermented fruit and distracted personality make him a poor teacher. Sometimes he'll praise horrible flute playing, and yell at students who actually show a talent with the instrument. While some clan members still attempt to learn from him, most now avoid any kind of music lessons from the odd Coatl.

o r i g i n s

Strangely, Coaxtl actually hails from an Ancient Lair in the Wyrmwound. Growing up, Coaxtl always found himself incredibly bored; the Wasteland held no entertainment for him. He disagreed with the Plaguebringer and the spread of Her poison into the world, seeing the Wyrmwound as a disgusting decay that poisoned much more entertaining lands. The only form of entertainment he found was a pipeflute he bought from a traveling merchant.

He left his home clan as soon as he was old enough, and made his way to the Sunbeam Ruins, where he met the lute player Dandelion. The two formed a small band, earning coins and food by entertaining different clans. Their group was finally complete when Coaxtl became entranced by the operatic voice of the Coatl Metzli. Eventually, the group made their way to the Cloud Stepped Clan, where they eagerly accepted the offer of permanent clan membership and steady payment for their duties.

p e r s o n a l i t y and a p p e a r a n c e

Coaxtl is the most eccentric of the band; he is overly dramatic, constantly complains about the vices of dragons while upholding the virtues of music, and is often incredibly lazy. Coaxtl picked up the unfortunate habit of eating fermented fruits excessively after joining the clan, and will often nap at the bottom of tall bamboo stocks.

Coaxtl's appearance consists of different pieces he picked up while traveling, aside from his antlers. He also had an extragavant tattoo added to his wings, which he claims was quite painful. His antlers are a result of an unfortunate mistake; while rolling around and moaning about how bored he was to his parents while a hatchling, he fell into a horrible pool of goo. While initially nothing happened, his antlers started growing in within a few days. He actually quite enjoys the antlers, claiming it makes him "unique" and "special".

Coaxtl's insufferable attitude often disappears instantly when he's around his mate Metzli. He finds her voice enchanting and colors beautiful, and has composed many different flute pieces to communicate his feelings. Metzli finds this incredibly charming, and she has composed vocal pieces of her own to go with his flute.

Coaxtl's companion is a playful but dumb Phytocat that Coaxtl claims is "highly intelligent" and can "understand dragon speech". Spending any time at all with the Phytocat, however, reveals otherwise.
