It was the first thing most people noticed about him.

He didn't insist on fighting alone.

Of course, that being said, the wildclaw did prefer to fight alone, or with perhaps one or two of the other fighters in the clan. But it was important to the wildclaw that he was able to protect and provide for his clan. He was at his best in the woods, and there he would train upcoming fledglings, those destined for the gods and those looking to rise in the ranks themselves on Olympus.

Luca kept friends with the others, but never moved to nest with anyone. It certainly didn't help matters that his penchant for solitude and his gruff demeanor didn't lend itself to being one of the charmers of the lair. It didn't bother Luca--or if it did, he never said a word about it.

Again, not that he said much to begin with.

But it wasn't until she joined the clan that anything changed.

It was fascinating to watch the imperial on the battlefield. Where Luca excelled among the trees, Mystral danced among the rocks up toward the skies. The storm seeker who kept to her side was like another piece of her rather than a companion creature who she had inevitably won over among those very stones. She was art in motion, silent and sure, a sure flash of ice behind the wind-green eyes.

They spent ages dancing around each other, neither saying a word even as they fought near side by side. They might had stayed that way for ages had Cara not finally nudged Mystral in the right direction and forced the imperial's hand.

He'd never forget the look in her eyes, that first time she asked him if he'd consider...perhaps...if he was interested...finding a nest with her. Nor the shift in those eyes when he agreed.

Watching their hatchlings grow into dedicated fighters for Olympuswatch themselves was a proud moment for Luca. And while as time went on, he and his mate nested less and less often, he didn't mind. They would have time to build the long family line that would make his wildclaw roots proud. And for the time being, he could continue to train new children to serve the gods, and new fighters to join his ranks...

And if he spent more time fighting alongside an imperial than any other wildclaw they'd known, then they would very quietly keep it to themselves. Luca had earned his place among the highest in the clan. If he wanted to fight by Mystral's side, then the others were not going to take that from him.

Besides, they were all fairly certain they wouldn't be able to tear the two apart.
