For Rauha, Alchemy is an ancient metaphysical science, but at the same time also an ancient practice shrouded in mystery and secrecy. It can be defined most simply as the "art of transformation." It is concerned with the underlying principles of how things change and the basic process of transforming one thing into another by manipulating its structure and altering the form of matter. To do so, one has to follow the 'Three Steps of Transition' to create a real 'masterpieces':

• Comprehension - First, one has to fully understand the the atomic or molecular makeup of a particular material so it then can be brewed into 'nothingness', a state needed for it to be able to become something new. This also means, one has to know, what kind of materials have to be deconstructed, what quantities are needed, and most of all: to have the knowledge about the formula for the build-up of the finished product.
  
• Deconstruction - This is the step where the material is being brewed into 'nothingness', broken down into a malleable state so it then can be easily reshaped into a new form.
  
• Reconstruction - Now begins the fusing of the deconstructed materials to reform them into their future shape. For this step to work, one has to possess the proper alchemical Level (Baldwin Level). After it only takes proper care of the brew and a certain amount of time, before the Alchemist can start shaping the product.

The Alchemist tries to speed up the 'natural process of perfection'--to activate the hidden energies that are trapped in matter. So she works very hard to isolate the most basic essences of matter to create higher forms.
