Lore

. His rear right leg was aching again from the muscle straining to keep his pace. He could feel the rest of his body trying to compensate but he needed to accept that he was never going to move the same way again. The wound on his leg has been healed for a while now but the after effects would remain. It hurt his pride to limp behind Magna’Mater like a dragon thrice his age. The largest blow would be the soft gaze of pity and guilt that would always mar Magna’Mater's gaze whenever she thought he didn't notice her looking at him.

Never blame yourself, Tacet’Mare would mentally beg, please Magna’Mater.

It wasn't her fault. He was the one that jumped to her defense when they had been ambushed by Centaur during the clan's nomadic days. He would do it again in a heartbeat. His life belonged to her ever since she rescued him from the melancholy days when he lived in his birth clan in the water domain.

What good was the ability of foresight if he was never allowed to benefit dragonkind with his knowledge? So when Magna’Mater asked him for a reading when they first met, he jumped at the opportunity. He saw a glorious future bathed in the light of the blood moon, specifically Magna’Mater's regal profile bathed in that eerie glow.

He was enthralled; heart, body, mind, and even soul.

Tacet’Mare was pulled from his internal musings when he heard Magna’Mater's voice. He straightened and looked at her quizzically. "Sorry, what was that my friend?"

Magna’Mater sighed and stepped to the side. She lifted her right forepaw to indicate an intricate crystal basin filled with sparkling water. "I made you a pool for your visions. You'd told me a few days ago that you were having headaches from not being able to properly use your foresight in a body of water."

Tacet’Mare was struck with awe. He walked up to the basin and admired the artistry of the crystal basin. "You made this?"

Magna’Mater stood taller and inhaled deeply. "With my two forepaws."

Tacet’Mare was overcome with emotion. He looked at Magna’Mater and didn't notice the tear that leaked from his left eye. His deep voice trembled, "T-Thank you!"

Magna’Mater tilted her head. "Are you crying?"

Tacet’Mare stiffened. He immediately rubbed his face on his tattered cloak.

Magna’Mater chuckled and playfully shoved his shoulder with her head. "You're such a gentle soul, my friend."

Tacet’Mare added mentally, and you are the only one who has seen my soul.

The Titan Age

Titan of Foresight - Loremaster - Mystic - Eyes of the Matriarch
. . . . frarcane_left_sword_by_littlefiredragon-dbjxyoi.png frarcane_right_sword_by_littlefiredragon-dbjxyp0.png

The Titan Age
Tacet’Mare is the Mystic of Sanguinem Luna clan. He is in charge of protecting and guiding Magna’Mater as the leader of her retainers as well as recording the history of the clan. In the later ages of the clan he passed on the duty of Loremaster to Aeterna’Scientia, since Tacet’Mare foresaw the young Mirror's destiny. Tacet’Mare's calm demeanor has earned him his name as he prefers quiet contemplation and companionable conversation over the hasty attitude of Magna’Patrem. He cares for his mate Glacies’Cordis but is often left hurting by her inability(or perhaps unwillingness) to understand emotions. There are rumors abound within the clan that Tacet’Mare's heart belongs solely to Magna’Mater ultimately. This came about due to Tacet’Mare taking a brutal blow to his right hind leg that had been intended for Magna’Mater. He has possessed a limp ever since.
Tacet’Mare once hailed from the Sea of a Thousand Currents but the clan of his birth was wary of outsiders (to put it lightly). There were strict laws in place that no oracle may foretell the future for a stranger that was not from the Tidelord's domain. Tacet’Mare broke that law when he read Magna’Mater's future. His heart was claimed by the future that he saw and he wanted to see it come to pass. The clan of his birth ruled that Tacet’Mare was to be exalted as a disgrace however Magna’Mater saved his life. She brought Tacet’Mare with her back to her budding clan and among the first things she shared with him was a warm meal and kind conversation. Tacet’Mare would never forget Magna’Mater's kindness and made an oath that he would devote himself to Magna’Mater and her goals.
Few things make Tacet’Mare angry but if ever the Sea of a Thousand Currents is mentioned, Tacet’Mare will become cold and dismissive. Over the years he has developed a loathing for the place and refuses to even place a paw in the waters. The Sea of a Thousand Currents, the water dragons that dwell there, and the Tidelord are all things that Tacet’Mare will openly display his disgust for.

The Pantheon Age
During this age Tacet'Mare spends most of his time inside Titan's Rest to protect his sleeping Matriarch and fellow Titans. He will step away to go to his cavern to look into the future and soothe his growing worries. It is a temporary relief and is quick to return, especially when he speaks with Arcyng Leo'Animus. Tacet'Mare does not actively participate in the Royal Court anymore however he is still valued for his counsel and deep spiritual ties to Magna'Mater. Arcyng and Tacet'Mare will often speak of the coming future and encourage the other to perform to the best of his ability. Most of Tacet'Mare's earlier roles in the previous age, such as being the High Mystic and the Loremaster, have been passed on to his disciples.
When the Angel's Coup D'Etat struck, Tacet'Mare was immediately targeted by Noctis'Timore. The unspoken hatred between the two finally come to light. It was a vicious fight but in the end, Tacet'Mare was no match for the God of Death. They were once allies after all, endeavoring toward the same goal. Tacet'Mare could not bring himself to hurt one of Magna'Mater's sons, no matter how much he hated him. He was forced to watch the dreaded future come to pass, unable to fight in the fray. To watch Noctis'Timore and Arcyng fight with no sign of resolution, only to finally be stopped by Tenebris'Cor trapping them both in crystal pillars within Titan's Rest.

The New Age
As much as he was aware of the necessity of Arcyng being trapped alongside Noctis'Timore, Tacet'Mare can not help the bitterness that festers in his heart. He is frustrated by Tenebris'Cor's cruel approach to ruling the Crystal Spire. Tacet'Mare tries to remain a positive influence on Tenebris'Cor however he can see how quickly the Skydancer is spiraling into madness. Tacet'Mare remains the protector of Titan's Rest and seldomly leaves the chamber at all. Just like his disciple Aeterna'Tempus, Tacet'Mare is aware that the New Age hasn't quite begun. He watches Audens'Cor Ladarius' progress with great interest and hope. Tacet'Mare, in the rare times that he is able to speak to the young Gaoler, tries to guide Ladarius toward his destiny.

Everglade Lasher
Familiar
Tacet’Mare's Everglade Lasher was separated from its school. Tacet’Mare took in the eel because he felt that he shared something in common with the sleek creature. Ever since he has spent time with his companion, swimming in the ocean and other bodies of water. Tacet’Mare had Niveus’Crystallo create a rather clever fish basket that allows him to take his Everglade Lasher wherever he may go.

A really nice outfit. Gloom smoke and the bramble mantle almost blend in with each other! Cool and dark colors are always my jam. I also have a weak spot for characters with undying loyalty that'll do anything for That One Someone. He has some of my favorite lore out of all of your dragons!

OH MY GOSH TACET’MARE'S LORE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! And he seems so gentle and nice . You've got a wild mixture of apparel on him but it all blends together seamlessly. I especially like how you've used the onyx pendants to act as a clasp for the conjurer's cloak and bramble mantle. They look like a single piece of apparel! The colours are all muted but there's definitely depth to them which makes every piece of apparel noticeable. Also those glowing clawtips are such a sassy little touch!

Tacet'Mare is such a beauty and once again you have captured me with your fantastic lore writing. His lore is pretty simple but the way you weave the stories of characters together to build a world for your clan is very nice. Now I'll praise his appearance because how can you look at him and not think he's a stunning imperial? All of the dark apparel from different sets go beautifully together and I like how his face pops out a bit against those dark colors. The layering you did with the conjurer's cloak and bramble mantle is probably one of my favorite parts about his look.

My life was
Always missing
Something before
You came to me
The seas were never fluid
The future held
Under lock and key

Time stood still
When I saw you
There had always been
A calling for something
More within me
Stronger than the Tidelord
Stronger than anything
Else

I had a vision -
Of all this clan
Would come to be
I saw your future
And knew what mine
Would be
I would follow you
To the ends of Sorneith
And further

Now I sit beside your crystal
The last titan awake
Still penning the words
I knew I'd always write
This is a history, a legacy
To you and your children
And those we found
Along the way

The basin you made
Sits beside me always
I still do what I can
To make your goals
Come true

The Magna’Mater would see Tacet’Mare's soul
She would see his knowledge

He would protect the leaders of the clan with his life
and he would have it no other way

The Blue Jay of Sanguinem Luna

An ancient Imperial limped forward. His deep blue gaze fell onto Aisling. A sonorous voice rippled from deep in his chest. “What is the hardest challenge that you have had to face thus far as matriarch of your clan?”

Aisling felt the sudden urge to kneel before the mighty blue giant, but she refused her body to do so. However, she did not let her respectful tone of voice falter as she answered his question.

“As you can probably guess, our clan is fairly new. So, our troubles may seem feeble when compared to the torments of older, more experienced clans. Recently our challenge has been that we had dug up our newly grounded roots in Arcane land, for better, more suitable land in the Nature territories. And so far our choice has proven fruitful, however, both I and my husband know that more trials are yet to come.”

A chuckle parted his battle scarred jaws. “All clans were tiny once. The roar of an empire does tend to deafen the ears to the wails of the small.”

The creak of metal and leather ripped through the air as the ancient Imperial shifted. He offered his right forepaw, pad facing up.

For a moment, all Aisling could do was stare at the imperials great calloused forepaw. And in that moment she stood, wondering what it meant. Was the great giant showing her the consequences of an experienced clan, was he warning her of the dangers that foreign clans possess, or was this a simple question, a thought of an alliance floating on the spring breeze. Still standing, she looked closer, at the way his talons curled subtly inward and at the gentleness that this colossus possessed even at the tips of his fingers.

“Blessed is the heart that is held in these hands.” She said. Perhaps she was being to flippant.

Then, without hesitation, she placed her talons on his, the petals of her corsage brushing the tips of his fingers.

“I would be ever indebted...if your clan would consider forging an alliance with my own. While I do understand that you might not be the monarch of your kingdom, might you be the dove that relays my message if that is the case.”

She did her best to hold her gaze to his as she made her offer. The fear of ridicule sliding down her spine as his ocean like gaze reflected her own.

No malice twisted his gaze, his eyes were like an abyss in the ocean with no wind to ripple the waters. His eyelids settled to show how relaxed he was. His great whiskers along his snout were still with no mockery to jostle them. His free forepaw, just as calloused as it's counterpart, rested atop the delicate paw that reached out to him. He was mindful that his talons did not hurt the corsage.

His next words came forth as calm as a creek's waters, "Blessed is the companion to your soul. To bask in your radiant kindness is a welcome reminder of who is guardian to my own heart."

His paws squeezed gently on the paw he held. "Perseverance, courage, and empathy shall be your greatest allies as you lead your clan forward."

He was silent for a moment. A low hum resonated from deep in his chest. "Perhaps... it is the other way around."

He continued. "I am not a dove, my dear. More likely a raven, a harbinger. I have served as an oracle to an apathetic and really rather useless elemental god. Fortunately, my life was rescued by a titan of the heavens and all of my respect goes to her. She gave me gifts and the tools that I needed to become better than I was. Even went as far as to change my very essence so that I may remain at her side and adapt with this changing world. I have been at the side of titans, gods, and kings alike to offer my counsel. Silent... and calm..."

"For you see... our names are given to us by the reigning Matriarch. My savior, my one and only true Matriarch, blessed me with the name Tacet'Mare. A reminder of where I came from... and how I have been shaped to this day."

Tacet'Mare's talons flexed slightly. "I will relay your desire to join our two clans as allies. Perhaps... a kind counterpart is what my clan needs in this age..."

His head tilted slightly. "Your name, young matriarch?"

The sensation of his forepaw on her own was almost as comforting as the calmness of his gaze. She blushed at the giant, no, Tacet'Mare’s kindness. For her own was very seldom returned.

As he continued, she tried her very hardest to absorb the wisdom he spoke to her, just as the roots of rose bushes absorbed the water that was so generously poured out to them. She looked deeper into his eyes. Now, where earlier a calm ocean has sat, swam a current of emotion. For now he spoke of something with true passion and she could see the lights that glowed inside him.

A momentary silence sat between them before she spoke again.

“Good Tacet'Mare, I deeply apologize, for I was wrong. You are not the pure white dove, nor the ink black raven, for you are a blue jay, who is by nature a songbird, however he does not sing.”

A small nervousness grew in her at the thought of relaying something as intimate and personal as her own name. Unconsciously she began twiddling her free talon through the garland on her wing that lay beside her.

“Aisling is my name. And I feel very fortunate to be having it.” She plucked a flower loose from the garland. “Names have such deep meaning do they not?” The stem of the flower stained her talons green as she twirled it through them.

Tacet’Mare squeezed his paws once more around Aisling’s forepaw. “A good and fitting name. Thank you for sharing.”

His paws released Aisling. He turned his head away to look off in the distance. “It is time that this old blue jay flew off then. I will relay your message to the leadership in my clan. Should they approve, I believe they will send a different messenger to speak to you. Farewell Aisling, I am sure we will meet again.”

“Oh sweet sir! I do very much hope that we meet again sometime, but until then, have safe travels and keep on smiling.” It surprises Aisling how much Tacet’Mare’s departure left her saddened. His kind words would forever stay with her, even if she never spoke a word to him again.

“A flower for you.” Aisling twisted one of the peonies free from the bundles on her wing. “May it serve as a reminder of our meeting.”

His battle hardened right forepaw took the peony from Aisling’s delicate fingers. He brought the delicate flower up to his snout to give it a light sniff so that it wouldn’t be hurt.

Tacet’Mare’s eyes held a gentle glimmer. His sonorous voice rippled. “A precious gift, one that I shall cherish. My thanks, Matriarch Aisling. Farewell. May the stars shine bright upon you.”

Tacet'Mare - apparently, you injured yourself protecting Magna’Mater. That was very brave; what gave you the courage to do something like that?

The crystalline chamber was silent and not a single dragon stirred within the walls. Faces cast in eternal slumber were nearly obscured by the facets of crystal. The two pillars of crystal near the center of the chamber, opposite of each other yet similar as they supported floor and roof, were dark. The chamber itself felt still and stagnant as if the air held its breath.

That was until a cold breeze rushed into the chamber. Ancient banners, faded from age, fluttered against the crystalline walls. The breeze disturbed more than just the banners. Worn fabric, as dark as the Tangled Wood, fluttered to the breeze's call. Tacet'Mare's mane shifted as his great head slowly lifted from his paws. His right hind leg stretched out awkwardly from where he lay, notably scarred behind the shear fabric of his ensemble, and stiffly tried to pull close to his body but only succeeded in rousing his eyes into a morose glower.

A dark chuckle echoed off the crystal walls, but the origin was not Tacet'Mare. His abyssal gaze rested upon the one that interrupted his vigil.

When the notes of the eerie laugh faded, a low rumble started within Tacet'Mare's chest. His lips folded into a fierce line as he struck the crystal floor before him with a reflective cadence to his claw. His ears finally flicked forward and he blinked slowly but did not lose the severity to his penetrating stare.

A sonorous masculine voice rippled from Tacet'Mare, echoing with a depth akin to a vast ocean. "Apparently..."

His gaze slipped to look toward his scarred leg only to return to the Inquiring One with a softer gaze.

Tacet'Mare continued, "It is considered polite to introduce oneself before asking such a sensitive question upon another. It would be easy to misconstrue a question to possess an intent to mock without at least some niceties observed. Regardless, I shall answer the inquiry."

His head nodded. "My decision to protect My Lady Magna'Mater comes from my soul, the very source of my being that resonates with her and wishes nothing more than to see her wishes fulfilled. The bond I, and the others within these crystal walls, share with Magna'Mater is something that words fail to express. The courage I brandished on that day, when that... spineless... Centaur tried to kill her..."

Tacet'Mare's nostrils flared as he drew in a severe breath and closed his eyes. On the exhale he shook his head to the negative. "There was no time for doubt. Even if such a sensation did try to grip me and stay my paws, it would fail."

Tacet'Mare lifted his right forepaw to rest across his broad chest. "I will protect Magna'Mater with everything that I have. I... I would've been nothing more that sea foam in that Tidelord's army of exalt fodder if it were not for her. To remind myself of what would've happened if I had never met her... to be robbed of her radiant presence? It would've been a fate worse than death. So it is easy for me to summon the courage to fight for her life, even if the risk is my own."
