Lichen is a warlock, working his magic through nature. The center of his power is a circle of standing stones, ancient and covered in runes only he can read. The lichen and moss on the stones grows thicker the more he draws upon their power. He casts his magic there in great secrecy, knowing that if his enemies were to find it and destroy even one of the stones, he would feel the harm to them as though it were to himself.

He was born of the forest, a being as ancient as the trees. When he first opened his eyes to the daylight the air was filled with song, and the beings of the glade delighted in his presence. The runes called to him, his heart aching with a sharp feeling of loss. He followed the tug in his gut until he found them, and the weight lifted the moment his claws gently brushed their surface.

The magic came to him later, a warm buzzing in his bones, a gift the runes gave him that he learned to control. And when they came, their cold presence and twisting arms tearing themselves into his grove, his home, he used that power to dispel the dark force. But they would come again, he knew. So he waits, sitting patiently in the heart of the forest, casting his protections in great secrecy, tending to the runes that gave him life.

He does not know when they will return. But when they do, he will be ready.
