Biography
S E L E N E
Queen of the Moon cold powerful passionate |
Selene ruled the land that became Lunar Point long ago, at the dawn of the fourth age. She was incredibly powerful, drawing power from the moon, and able to conquer several lesser clans for dragonkind. However, as her power grew, so did her adversaries. Eventually, she was defeated by a mage who sought to absorb Selene's power for herself. Selene was able to kill the mage, but one last spell cast on her resulted in her being sealed away. For thousands of years, Selene was trapped in the ruins of her kingdom, unable to take physical form. It wasn't until a small group led by Helios (her now mate) came to the ruins to view the eclipse, did Selene finally escape and reclaim her kingdom. She asked Helios to rule by her side, and for those in his group to be their subjects. They agreed.
Selene is the guardian of the moon, with her pearl being her way to see the moon from Sornieth. She is capable of extraordinary magic, and is one of the oldest dragons in Sornieth. Selene is the city's queen, predicting and observing astronomical events, making her valuable to the Arcanist. This is why the clan banner is based on her. She is stern and relentless, absolutely obliterating anyone and anything that stops her from achieving her goal. While many in the clan respect and love her, it is with a hint of fear of death. She is a tad bit bloodthirsty, a remnant of her war filled days. She's not proud of that. She wants to be better, wants to be a benevolent and wise ruler so her people can prosper. She can't make the same mistakes like last time...

PHASES OF THE MOON
|
Selene tread carefully as she stepped into the deepest part of the lair. She hadn’t had much need for this place since her return to power, but she’d recently found a purpose for the old dungeon. It was a bleak darkness contained in cold stone walls, but a faint pink glow came from within. Selene plodded closer. Rounding a corner, the magic glow of an energy barrier filled the room. Looking through the barrier was like looking through stained glass, but Selene could make out the distorted shape of a disgraced clan mate. She hesitated for just a moment, placing her pearl carefully in the corner just before the room’s entrance. She stepped forward and addressed the prisoner, “Fortunato.” The wildclaw lifted his head and flashed a toothy grin. “Your highness! How good of you to pay me a visit.” “Jupiter said you wanted to speak to me,” Selene replied curtly. “What do you want?” “Other than a fair trial, you mean?” Fortunato sneered. “Just to talk.” “Then talk!” Selene barked, “You’re wasting your time?” “Am I? It seems like you’re the one putting off the inevitable.” Selene bristled. “I don’t know what you think you’re talking about,” she lied, “but you’re wrong. Everything is going quite well now that you’re locked up like you should’ve been ages ago.” |
“Don’t lie to yourself,” The wildclaw pushed himself to his feet and slithered closer to the barrier between them. “The others may choose to forget, but I haven’t. And deep down, neither have you.” The queen’s heart pounded. She stayed silent. “You know all the things you’ve done. Don’t you remember how effective your methods were back then? Why do you hold yourself back now?” “It’s wrong!” Selene affirmed, panicked. “Wrong?! Ha!” Fortunato scoffed. “Do you think there’s any place for right and wrong where you stand? In the position you hold?” Selene watched Fortunato's distorted image frown. “I thought you were smarter than that. It’s why I joined in the first place.” Selene thought about her title, a title that meant she was responsible for the lives of everyone under her. She cared about all her clan mates on some level. Even the ones she disagreed with, and even the ones like him. Suddenly, she felt her resolve return to her, “It’s precisely because I hold this position that I must do what’s right. I must hold myself to the highest possible standard. If I don’t, what reason do I give those beneath me to act any better than you? I’ve made many mistakes in my past, there’s no denying that. But all I can do now is resolve to better myself, to not make those mistakes again.” Selene beamed, proud of everything her clan had accomplished, of all the kind-hearted dragons who looked to her… Then Fortunato laughed. It was a cruel, mocking laugh. When he spoke, his words stung, “Well! That’s all fine and dandy, but what about when it comes to making the real tough decisions. You’ll be caught in a rock and hard place eventually, I’m sure. And when that happens, you’re not going to waste time preaching right and wrong. You’re going to act. You’re going to make a decision. So tell, me Your Highness, what are you going to choose: victory or your very soul?” “SILENCE!” She boomed. She felt an all-too-familiar feeling in her throat. Her breath came in dark clouds. Without another word Selene turned and left, reminding herself how to breathe. She almost forgot her pearl. |
