Faolan is a hunter- specifically, the Wild Hunter. He is the reason children are told to stay out of the Orchard at night, for if the Wild Hunter catches you, you become a faery, and you join his hunt as his hound. While all this is true, he also keeps the forest safe, capturing dangerous creatures and turning them into his hounds- or food for them. He loves dragons, and sometimes leaves his catches outside the cook's kitchen as an anonymous gift.

Faolan is intimidating. Huge and broad, on the back of an wide-antlered elk, wearing the hides of his prey. He can be heard at night during the Hunt: the low bellow of his hunting horn, the baying of his hounds, the cries of his prey as it crashes through the forest in terror. His eyes glow a bright red in the black of night, and his voice is deep and bone-chilling. He is frightening and inscrutable, his face covered at all times, but gentle at heart. He rarely takes new hounds any more. He has plenty.

Faolan answers to one being only: Oberon, Sidhe king of the Orchard. He fears nothing but the wrath of his king. He is nearly as old as Oberon- a Hunter cannot exist with nothing to hunt. He waited til beasts invaded the forests, breaking away from the old Hunt and starting his own. Faolan used to be a hound, a servant of an older Hunter. Now he is the Hunter of the Orchard, and his old master is the Hunter of the Labyrinth.
