Biography

2s8s6qd.png

The Sicarian Oasis was once beautiful. It thrived with sempervivum and aloe, and cool moss that were soft on weary, sandburned feet. Many a traveler and nomad found their salvation there. They washed away their fatigue and wet their parched mouths with the cool water, such a welcoming embrace from the torrid desert dunes. They slept there for nights, knowing that they were safe under the shade of the palm trees. And they left with their vigor renewed, their burdens lightened. At least, for a while.
Such is the way of the oasis. Visitors come seeking renewal, and they leave with their wishes granted. This is the way it has always been. Nothing is constant but the lapping water. Nothing stays but the succulents.
Nothing except Sicarian, an ancient spirit who lays unseen under the layers of silt and sand, who kept constant vigil over those who sought a temporary shelter in his oasis. By sweltering day and by star-scattered nights, he kept his watchful gaze. So focused was he, that his own abode crumbled around his body.
For under the heat of the infernal sun and the withered jaws of time, the Sicarian Oasis’s waters dried up, leaving lifeless silt beds and the bones of fish. And with it, Sicarian, too, withered away. He became a skeletal, ruined spirit, only a mirage of what once was.
For centuries he laid buried in the cracked oasis beds, silently mourning his loss. There he laid, longing for what once was, and for what would never be again.

...

I see you. I see your sand-burned feet, scraped raw from the dunes. I see your hands, darkened by weeks under the sun.
I see your face. It is different every time. Yet, I know you. I know your story. It is the same every time. Yes, I know you. I know you well.
But do you know me? Do you know that I lay here and watch over you? It has been so long since someone stopped here. There is no water. There are no fish, no plants.
How I yearn for the past.

...

Without the water, the lifeblood of the oasis, the steady flow of nomadic visitors ceased. No longer did Sicarian keep his vigil, for what was there to hold vigil over?
