Biography
ZUDAN
[ storm • singer ]

[ storm • singer ]
patron of east winds | self-focused, temperamental, resolute
The four winds are told to be the Windsinger's first creations, born as strands of energy alongside the Stormcatcher that mingled with the crackling magic in the atmosphere. They are thus spoken of as each representing a cardinal direction: the cold northern winds that follow the Icewarden, the sapping southern winds that follow the Plaguebringer, the soothing western winds that follow the Gladekeeper, and the violent eastern winds that follow the Stormcatcher. Such parentage is merely rumored, however, and in some legends they are considered all the children of the Windsinger and Tidelord, or of the Stormcatcher himself. For the most ancient of primordials, their origins matter less to them than to the mortals who attempt to make sense of their existence. The winds themselves are known to be particularly elusive and fickle towards dragonkind, and view such small lives as insignificant and inconsequential against the massive power of the air.
Zudan was never born with a form. He sprung to life when the Windsinger and the Stormcatcher wound together in terrible might as they fought over the skies. Among their gales he took his first breath: but never changed from the ethereal, transparent spirit he is, and even among the primordial figures, he is an elusive one. Zudan does not entirely attribute himself to the hierarchy of his siblings; often he is seen as a different being, simply sentient magic rather than an actual creature. It was many years before he took a name and even now goes by many, but to most he is called Zudan, a follower of his Stormcatcher father. His temperamental presence is denoted by the harsh winds he sweeps across Sornieth with him. He is also known to be a guide and messenger to the Stormcatcher's chosen children: particularly the cruel soldier, the lost knight, and the intrepid priestess. Even still, Zudan is largely impartial to their causes and lives. He serves only himself — and should they want his immortal wisdom, they shall have to work for it.
Zudan rarely associates with his fellow wind spirits, viewing himself as a separate entity made from mercurial storms rather than the breezes his siblings herald. His gentle counterpart of the west is one of the few that can soothe his ire, though Zudan will never admit it to himself. The other two, however, are a different story, and when the east meets the frigid north and the scorching south, one can expect a tempest to form.
Zudan's summon is Awn the ghosthost viola, most often seen as just a glimmer in the corner of one's eyes and a crescendoing tune that predicts his presence. Unlike so many summons, Awn seems to lack its own awareness, but one can predict Zudan's mercurial moods by listening to the change in its tune.
