The pursuit of knowledge is valued by both Arcane and Light. However, the difference is that Light covets knowledge, whereas Arcane dragons choose to use it.
Marja is no different from your average dragon from the islands of magic and wonder. Her bloodline is nothing very esteemed, but most clans of Starfall Isles took pride in educating all, regardless of class or pedigree. She was an excellent student, bringing home many high marks, and her parents were proud. Like in most Flights, she was due to be been a good position in some specific field of magic and work there for the rest of her long life.
Instead, on her final year of schooling, she met a dragon that looked just like her. Marja thought he must be a distant cousin, for the resemblance was striking, but no. He came from the Sunbeam Ruins, and although her father was a Light drake, there was no relation. How odd. His name, she learned, was Fraise.
He was a refugee, fleeing from an unknown foe that had wiped out his home in a single night. It was another clan... probably. But he wasn't sure. He came to warn them and ask for their help; after all, an Arcane clan must have some magic to stop any foe with. He pleaded for with the clan leaders for days, but was turned away and out from the clan.
Marja was... curious about Fraise, about the danger that lead him here. She took him aside and asked him as many questions as he could stand about his home's demise. She learned that a storm had appeared, unnatural and archaic, that washed torrents of water and sparked fires that were incapable of being put out. Fraise could only watch as his clan either burned or drowned around him. ... So he fled.
Hearing that, Marja recognized it as something of of her of Flight, but the method and design were the mark of the Lightning Flight. It seemed likely, she said to Fraise, that someone in that someone in the Lightning Flight had commissioned a special magical weapon. However, it was impossible to determine the involved parties from speculation alone.
(And secretly, Marja felt guilty at the mere thought her Flight might be responsible.)
With that in mind, the two made a pact to investigate matters together. Fraise with his testimony on matters as guidance, and Marja with her knowledge of many things magical. They traveled far and wide, over diseased wastelands, landlocked oceans, and many forests. They did eventually find a lead on the particular spell that was the basis for the destruction of Fraise's clan, but all things after that bared no fruit...
Still, it's not all so hopeless. The two eventually settled down in Lux Spire after their years of search grew cold, with both keeping out feelers for similar incidents that occurred. Marja even became appointed to the Council of Eleven Flights, making as much difference as she could, all the while keeping to her studies and dear Fraise. She's great friends with Thieny, oracle and council member, and Ravindra, the head librarian.
... But. She'd still give up both her wings for Fraise to have some closure, however.
