Biography

Frogs were a recurring theme in the murals and tapestries, once vibrant colours now faded from the relentless sun. The fabric danced in time with the pleasant sound of wind chimes, in time with the rattling wheels and heavy feet beating against the chapped earth. Draped from any available surface, the old wooden exteriors, and roofs of rusted tin patched together.
The largest dragons, like mules, or horses, strapped to the wagons and caravans pulled them with steady pace, and weary faces. The bizarre convoy made stark contrast against the endless plain, so full of life when deep amongst a land so seemingly devoid of.

The green Guardian was like an island in himself. He emitted a damp smell, like petrichor, and an old corpse in humid sun. The vibrant trees grown from his muscular shoulders were a foreign sight, in an isolated land in which one could go a lifetime never seeing such fauna. Amongst the undergrowth of his back glowing mushrooms bloomed from wet soil, vines and pale roses climbed across his wings, draped with hanging moss and rendered flight impossible. He held tall his long, thick neck, and the immense antlers atop his head gave even greater height.
The wagon he towed was the largest and most ornate of all. One side was primarily a deep purple, fading lighter towards the bottom where twisting black strokes detailed naked branches against the night sky, atop which turned to a galaxy of unnamed planets of various size and colour, and with stars weaved between. On the other featured a nebula, of iridescent pinks and abstract shapes, although slightly crude in execution. The centrepiece however was the frog, its limbs stretched into the shape of a star. Muddy green and blemished skin, warts, and dripping slime painted in loving detail. Moist, black eyes bulging almost cartoonishly from its face stare absently across the desert.
Inside was an ecosystem of its own. The air was thick like pea and ham soup from humidifiers and mist, the wood and peeling floral wallpaper green from mould and wet to the touch. The floor sloshed with bog, jotting upwards long grass and plants from faraway lands, bones and carcasses scattered amongst them. Lily pads sway with the gentle motion of the vessel. The throne was an island in the north of the swamp, and seemed to be made from pure gold, covered in climbing plants and moss obscuring its intricate detailing. She sat upon the red velvet seat, unblinking and dwarfed by its size, the frog. The mother.
His love

***

He laughed uproariously at the sound at which the others winced, the sound of his booming voice followed by his amusement of even greater volume. His stare forced a similar, although not quite as enthusiastic reaction from the knee-height creatures, although their cower brought them down to scarcely ankle.
"Yeah, yeah, what did I do, what did I do, crushed his bloody, hah, bloody head with mine, yeah, that's what I did!"
And again the ritual repeated.
