Biography

THIS IS OLD LORE. NEW LORE IS BEING WORKED ON The coatl known as Lilith was the first to receive visions from the Shade. Through it, she saw the truth beyond the stars. Lilith lived a routine clan life as a scholar. Day after day, she studied ancient tomes and transcribed the parts her clan leaders deemed useful for the rest of the clan. It was an important job, she supposed, but a mundane one at best. After a particularly taxing work day, Lilith left her clan's lair to escape into a nearby oak tree. She quickly succumbed to exhaustion, and dropped out of consciousness. |
In her sleep, The Shade spoke to her. It showed her its immense power, and the universal cycle it upheld. It showed her the truth. That all life is part of the universe, and that upon death, their components are released into the cycle so that new life may be born. The Shade exists, not as a great evil threatening the livelihood of the realm, but as the facilitator of this cycle. The pillar that had been erected to keep the Shade out of the realm was preventing the cycle, inadvertently causing it to wither and die.
Lilith understood the weight of her mission. The entire realm feared the Shade's return, but it was the one thing that kept their world alive. She knew, or at least, assumed, she was the only one to receive this truth. The coatl panicked, and began frantically grasping for a strategy.
Several days passed, granting Lilith nothing more than a compounding sense of dread. Within a week, she had worried herself into a blackout. It was at this point that the Shade sent her a second vision.
The second vision was not of the Shade, but rather, her clan. Not her current clan, but the Umbra Society - the one she was destined to lead. She saw countless underground lairs scattered throughout the realm, creating a network of disciples. Lilith saw herself in a vast underground cavern, decorated with vivid purple banners and ornaments. At the deepest level, Lilith sat, surrounded by a peculiar group of dragons. The Shade was clear to her: These were its other prophets, and this was the epicenter of the Umbra Society's movements. The Shade then directed her upwards - to the Pillar. The Pillar rested inside a grand fissure in the Shattered Plain. Tracing the chasm downwards, Lilith was shown a seemingly innocuous entrance to a cave. This was her destination - the heart of the Umbra.
Lilith woke as the full moon reached its apex. Her vision drifted towards the Pillar, daunting and now terrifying over the horizon. She soon set out without a word, leaving her clan behind, never to be seen again.
