IN LOVING MEMORY


This dragon was a gift from my best friend back when I first joined Flight Rising. In October 2019, that friend was killed in a car accident with a drunk driver. Since then, this dragon has stayed out of sight because I honestly couldn't look at her without crying. I was in a dark place for a long time, and it took what felt like forever to pick myself up after that. As cliché as that sounds, I really don't have any other way to describe that time of my life. We were basically sisters, best friends since we were 3, and her life was suddenly ended by another person's reckless and irresponsible choices. Hate and grief were pretty much my only emotions for a long time after that.

With the help of my friends and family, I have been able to move past that overwhelming grief. Shortly before the second anniversary of my friend's death, I decided it was time to bring this dragon out of the darkness and give her a special place in my lair again. She was always meant to be a scatter project, so I picked up from where my friend and I had left off. I expected this journey to take quite a while, but in fact it only took one day and four additional scatters to land on the perfect colors to match my friend's aesthetic. I teared up a little when I made this scry because it reminded me so much of her. While there is still some sadness left when I see this dragon, she now serves as a source of joy and as a reminder of the good times and happy memories of our lives.
