The Aloof

Athena was the only hatchling her parents had together, and with clusters of half-siblings from both sides, the lonely Ridgeback often felt overshadowed and forgotten. Being a shadow dragon, she was always mysterious and sullen from the start, although her rather flippant upbringing led to her heart hardening even further. When a famine struck her clan, Athena was the only one determined enough or, according to her, intelligent enough to run away. She found a water clan and joined without much of a second thought. In spite of the fact that Athena definitely didn't strike Lilac's fancy, she considered her a valuable part of the clan because of her distinct aloofness. She could easily intimidate creeping enemies. Since her joining, Athena has had some offspring of her own, but unfortunately seems incapable of understanding a true family, instead discarding her mate and children, leaving him to raise the hatchlings on his own. This is considered the hushed reason among her clanmates why only one of Athena's offspring remains in the clan, the others going to serve the Tidelord or to other clans. Also unfortunately, new males keep becoming attracted to her, mesmerized by her magenta crystalline scales that were so identical to her mother's. And so, it seems, the toxic cycle continues.
