Biography
Kelsi was born as a Squid Ink. Even though she wasn’t born under Tidelord’s influence she felt the call of her nature strong and eager to follow her calling. But she soon found a problem – while a normal Squid Ink have crystalline body that preserve them from any harms of the harsh environment, she was instead born with a soft hide. This disability made her vulnerable to environmental hazards and decrease her chance of survival in the wilderness. Her birth clan had hoped she would join the scribes that were old and weak in the safety of The Spiral Keep, and help recording the going and passing of the Water Flight. But such life wasn’t what Kelsi wanted. She didn’t want to live a ‘safe’ life. She wanted to travel the world, like other able Squid Inks, to experience and record passing histories in first hand. She wasn’t going to let a small disability stopping her fulfilling her dream.
They called her stubborn.
She called it determined.
Kelsi had spent most of her early life training her body to adapt to harsh elements. She applied synthetic oil to her soft hide to repel polluted water and harmful lights. When she was ready, she left her birth clan in search of a new place that she can put her scribing skills to better use. It was in the rotten wasteland of Rotrock Rim, she met her admirer, Ryan, and together they found the clan that she finally found her charge, and be a proud Squid Ink.

In the Sea of a Thousand Currents the written word is few and far between due to its unfortunate permeability to sea water. Lore is more often kept via the songs and storytellers of the Flight, passed down from generation to generation. However, such knowledge is often lost with the passing of storytellers and clans, and thus a new subspecies of dragon was born to preserve this knowledge. SquidInk dragons have become scholars and scribes, writing down the tales and information of the Flight and clans. They use small magics to preserve the paper from water damage or carving into the stone to form more permanent reminders. To show their dedication to their duties these dragons have dyed their wings and claws with the blue-black ink of squids.
Some SquidInk dragons with powerful magic have even taken up with a form of spirit quelling. They bind the spirit to the ink and write their stories upon paper and stone, and thus tie the spirit to the item. However, these bonds are not permanent and must be renewed with every new moon or risk the spirit being released from its ties.
