Biography
FREAR
Sea explorer ▪ [insert trait] ▪ [insert trait]
|
Bubbly, loud yet kind to all, anyone can vouch for the friendliness Frear exerts on a daily basis. Blues of every hue ripple across his hide, a soft, almost silky down to his coat contrasted to the durable, grooved texture of his wings and flaring 'feathers', accompanied by translucent, light fins, unique only to coatl's who were born in the deepest fathoms of the ocean, an instigated, mystical evolutionary trait said to be a gift from the Tidelord himself. Frear knew next to nothing of the world above the ocean blue when he was a young dragon, leading a somewhat sheltered life with his original clan, though the ebbing flow of curiosity within his mind and eyes would never be satiated until he, of his own accord, went up to the surface, where the light filtered in through patterns and arrays, where the world he knew ended, and the mysteries began. With a heavy heart the underwater coatl had proposed his leave to the others and, with nothing to his name and no place to call his own, Frear swam away from the place no longer home, an excited twirl to his movements in the warm ocean current. He hadn't expected it to be so difficult, however, perusing the endless ocean by his lonesome. The expanse around him almost intimidated him when he knew he had no place to go, the nights he settled and tried to sleep in formations of rock and coral would always leave him agitated and scared. The shadows that moved just barely in the distance, out of sight, producing noises and moans to then disappear into the murky darkness terrified him, and he knew that he was truly alone. Yet he continued, for what he did not know, but he would not - positively, he refused - to break the surface until he knew something was there to greet him, and to that it did. For days he had traveled across currents and miles and then, to his surprise, supporting beams came into view on a bright, midsummer day, the prolific light filtering through the now bordering shallow water, painting dancing patterns on the sand as the water rippled and waved. With a deep breathe he broke the surface, treading for a while to take in the sight of a towering, glistening city of white and gold. Upon seeing forms moving next to floating boats with bleached white sails, Frear fled under the water once more, scared and yet, for the first time, excited too. He would bide his time and wait, until he could dare to face them. For the next few weeks the dragons who had frequented the dock, be it for carrying goods, docking boats or just simply for socialization, had reported the water rippling in ways that seemed like movement, fins that didn't belong to any form of creature they knew breaching the surface only barely, just to disappear under the waves again. A tendril loach grown to a massive size, or a spy clearwater oracle for nearby beastclans? All of this speculation escalated until no one could take it anymore, their hovering intruder ever the more present, and, taking the lead, Leathan dived into the water, prepared for the worst. He only had to get so far under the deck to find Frear quietly floating, back turned, only to flip around at the slightest noise with wide eyes. With a particularly fat specimen of seabass - a sandyshore, to be exact, Frear had corrected him months after their encounter - stuck in his mouth, Leathan did nothing but stare and then laugh, motioning for the coatl to join him on his journey back above the waves. From that moment on the coatl knew he would be safe, and there was no more reason to hide. Nowadays he repays the colony by accompanying fishing boats, diving into the water and herding up fish to guide them into the open nets. Due to the success of these outings he was even granted a gift: a net like cape pinned together by rosy shells, an artifact he wears with pride. Above all else, however, he is glad that he had the guts to face the ocean, to swim into the unknown and emerge victorious, and find the ones who mean so much to him now. |
