Valentine

Valentine was shunned from his family and first clan as his unusual coloring makes him unfit for hunting. He was wandering aimlessly one evening, passing over the Sea of a Thousand Currents, when Sienna collided with him and then were swept into the caverns where they met Stormflight and Stoneflight. They have since become life partners and have found a new life under the sea.

"Hah...hah...hah...hah..." Heavy breathing, panted out almost dramatically, filled Diadem Caverns' main hallway. Two Nocturnes dragged themselves through the cave, covered in dirt and sweat, struggling and flighting for each and every step they took.
Or, well, one was, anyway.
The other had lazily perched herself on the second's back, a mojito placed delicately in her claws.
"Hah...huh...how," Valentine grit out between deep lungfuls of breath, "how did...this...hah...become a...a thing, again?"
Varuni took a sip of her mojito. "I was so pumped after my own level 25 that I shot myself straight through the Caverns while carryin' Varuna."
"Right," he spat out in response. That definitely wasn't supposed to be sarcastic at all.
Nope.
No siree.
Nada.
The exhausted Nocturne took in a fortifying breath from the autumn breeze swirling around him, and dug his claws in deeper to the semisolid earth of the Caverns' main pathway.
I can do this. It's just a little bit further, just a little bit more, just a little. Bit. More, just...hah...hah...
"You know we had to do it this way."
"EEAAAK!" Valentine launched himself and his passenger a full six meters forward in fright, regaining his footing as the ground came way too close for comfort.
Wysteriaclaw glided up to the struggling duo, leaping from shiny rock to shiny rock silently along the walls and ceiling of the cave.
"Sienna is simply too light for this exercise to have brought you to level 25," she observed without pause, nodding at the two slightly.
"What she said," Varuni readjusted herself on Valentine's back, shifting her weight around and, her ride grumped to himself, getting dangerously close to breaking something.
Valentine swore inwardly. From the lack of curses being thrown his way, he hadn't even managed to spill Varuni's drink. Gods condemn it.
"Dragons mighta thought you'd be cheating. Anyways, don't worry, you and matey-poo get to get reunited when we get to the home stretch."
"Wh...whait, what?!" Valentine blinked, balking suddenly.
Varuni prodded him in the side teasingly as a reminder to keep on moving.
"Yeah, you 'n' Sienna get to cross the finish line together," she shrugged, tail flicking. Wysteriaclaw narrowed her sharp eyes at the motion, but swiftly pulled ahead of the pair and disappeared into the glowing depths of the cave.
Valentine didn't notice.
"Didn't seem fair, havin' neither of you get to do it with the other, seein' as y'all're thick as thieves and more inseparable than the ocean and the shoreline. Or me 'n' a nice sangria on said shoreline."
The iridescent Nocturne stumbled, and his mind stuttered to a halt.
Sienna...he hadn't seen Sienna for a month, not since he'd reached level 24. He'd been banned from seeing her, Ashclaw, and Angeltail until he'd reach level 25, as part of the tradition where the last level be completed in near-complete solitude. It was supposed to allow time for reflection and whatever, but, oh, Light Above did he miss his mate and kids.
Seeing them again...
"There y'go, kiddo! That's it!"
Varuni's cheers were lost to Valentine as he steadily picked up his pace.
