Once considered Queen of the Indigo Court, since the Court's absorption into Clan Athema, she has taken the title of vicereine in order to demonstrate that any power she now wields is merely an extension of Crag's irrefutable domain. Indeed, Aura has been curiously accepting of her clan's conquered status, to the point that when Crag first arrived at the Court and declared Clan Athema's intention to take it for themselves, Aura politely greeted Crag at the entrance to her palatial lair, and immediately swore fealty to the Imperial without so much as an objection. Since then, Crag has been deeply suspicious of Aura and her motives, though for her part, Aura has been nothing but loyal and dutiful towards Crag and her clan.

Aura's lack of territoriality may stem in part from the fact that she was not born into the Court, nor did she found it--in fact, it is unclear how precisely Aura came to occupy such a position of prominence within her clan. As far as anyone can tell, there was once a time when someone else sat upon the throne, and then after Aura arrived, without explanation or resistance, she was the ruler instead. Aura herself behaves as if there was nothing before she became queen of the Court. But, when asked about the marks that cut across her flesh, the deep trough-like scars gleaming with molten gold--or about the pelt she wears, always drawn up so that it obscures her face, her back--she will only smile, and say that such matters are best left to the past. And any suggestion that there exists some similarity between her marks and those etched upon the hide of Lord Crag is met only with silence and a cool, vacant stare.

Like her consort, Katydid, she has taken a rather transparent interest in Anukh, and can often be found exchanging words with him in the gardens after dusk, when the stars are brightest and the darkness is weighing down. What the two speak about, it's impossible to say--all that is known is that Anukh always appears particularly unsettled after one of their talks.

This has not gone unnoticed by Crag, who has repeatedly cautioned Aura that if she continues to pursue Anukh's attention, then Crag will deal with her herself. Yet, despite being the only clan ruler to ever unconditionally surrender to Clan Athema without showing even a token amount of resistance, Aura does not seem at all cowed by Crag's exhortations. And Crag, despite her possessiveness and brutality, has never gone so far as to physically punish Aura for her disobedience--almost as if, it is whispered within the clan, she were afraid of what might happen if she did.
