Biography

The Quiet Mender

"Walk softly and listen carefully. You never know what you might see and hear."
Healer| Mate: Talos | Story: Saving Softpaw

WIP Softpaw has always been quite, sometimes her hush can be alarming. She is known for quietly easing up on conversation without a single sound. Blaze has told her she would make an excellent scout several times and Talon has also commented on it (though usually after she's startled him).Major WIP Stormy refuses the idea however and insists that she continue her healing arts, which she is most gifted with. Stormy and Theron consider her their star pupil and neither will let her go easily. Softpaw is most usually a happy and loving tundra, though for all of her light hearted behavior there is a deep sadness hidden behind her eyes. It's always there and no matter how the family attempts to remove it they simply cannot.

Softpaw is the recipient of a very rare genetic quirk among Tundras. She was born with an eidetic memory; the cost for this sort of memory was the loss of her olfactory memory. In all honesty, it’s considered such an anomaly that most Tundra see it as a deformity. Softpaw has never looked at it like a handicap though. Being the first Tundra in the clan she didn’t even realize she was different until Talos came into her life.

In all honesty, she never wanted a mate, so when Talos started to throw his, not so subtle, flirtations at her she was at a loss for what to do with them. In some way she had hoped that what he considered a impairment would chase him away, but he just kept coming. He found her smell fascinating and refused to give up without a fight, insisting her smell was the right one for him. Eventually, his persistence (and completely lovable and adorable nature) won her over. She found her mate to be blissfully forgetful and he thought of her the same way.

Like most in the clan she's very loving and soft spoken unless she's defending her home and family, then she becomes quite vicious. She is as accomplished on the battle field as off of it and is more then able of utilizing magics for destruction. Though, it disgusts her to have to resort to that sort of violence. She wants nothing more than to be the gentle healer, but that will not prevent her from doing what she has to do.

Journal Entry
Day 12 in the Month of Lightning

I've seen a great many with journals these days. My little sister Loa has recently taken up the practice. Though, for her, it is to help with the nightmares causing her restless nights. I have not been asked to keep one, but have decided to do this anyway. It will be hidden away and will stay that way until well after I fade. Honestly, it would probably be best if I never wrote any of this, but I need something, anything, to relieve my agonized soul. Be warned dear reader, what you are about to see is a story never uttered to anyone. You will be the first to know this secret. You will be first to know where I come from.

The excuse is that I cannot recall any past beyond when Momma found me. That is not the case however; I do have an eidetic memory after all. The truth of it is I am just terrified to speak of it. I cannot help but to fret that my beloved family will cast me out as a monster. It’s what I am, a monster. At first I didn’t understand how or why I became that twisted abomination capable of terrible wickedness. It wasn’t until Dash introduced the Shade to everyone that my eyes opened to the truth. The metamorphosis I take when it is summoned takes on all of the characteristics of one of those creatures. Everything from extra horns, to the voices becomes apparent until it’s locked away again.
Forgive me I digress. A story is not a story without a beginning and so I shall start there. I was born to the Minac Clan of Dragonhome. It was a large clan that held a place of high regard among the others in the region. They taught peace and harmony with the world around them and those were lessons my parents taught to me and my siblings. My mother was a lovable Tundra and a very talented healer—she was best in the clan as I remember, or perhaps it was just a daughter’s perception. Either way she was a damn fine healer. My father was a firm, but loving, Snapper. A scholar and advisor for the clan’s ruling counsel.

I had two nest mates with me, a Snapper sister and a Tundra brother. They were elder to me with my sister being the eldest to all of us. She was very protective and my brother was just a big jokester. I was the curious one, always chasing after things and eager to learn. It was a behavior that lead me into trouble more than once and it would be that trait that resulted in my curse.

Marquis & Willow from SerpentineSage

One night something came into the nursery; I can remember it being a shadowy little wisp thing that could take on different forms. It was strange, but I wasn’t afraid of it. Thinking back, I know I should have been, but at the time I was simply more curious about it than anything. It spent a few moments rummaging around the nursery before noticing I was awake and watching. Then it came over to me where it changed shape into a misty Tundra girl. I was absolutely enthralled at that point and got up to investigate further. We played for a short while in the nursery before it started to lead me outside and away from the den. By the time I actually took note that I was away from home, it was too late.

I suddenly found myself before a group of cloaked drakes of various shapes and sizes, but it was the Skydancer that stood before them all that really frightened me. There was a deep evil that shadowed her dark green eyes. It pierced through your soul, that evil glare, seeing all of the secrets and fears that you strive to keep hidden. Naturally, I attempted to backpedal, but that Skydancer had other ideas. With a single wave of her hand, that wispy Tundra copy switched from playful innocents to violent cruelty. Its shape melted away to become a writhing puddle next to my feet; its dark arms shooting up every now and again as it tested the bounds of its formless body. By that time I’d enough sense to actually start running away, not that it did me any good. Before I could get even two feet the puddle leapt at me, wrapping me tightly like a blanket swaddling a new cub. It continued to grow tighter and tighter, constricting my breathing until I could not draw in enough breath to support consciousness. Naturally, I passed out and was at the mercy of the Skydancer.

When I finally woke it was in a dark, stony place. I lay on a slab of marble, illuminated only by the blood-red runes that circled me. Of course, waking from a nightmare only to find oneself still in a nightmare was terrifying.
