Tick – tick – tick – tick.

The library clock continued on its rather boring journey, making sure ever single second got its time to shine one per minute. The noise would put most anyone asleep if they had just been sitting there. The gentle march of time was enough to lull anyone to sleep, once she came to think of it. After all, eventually, time put everyone to sleep. The severity sometimes depended on age, health, and if you had received any mortal wounds in the last few hours. For Delphinium, however, sleep wasn't on its way. She was incredibly busy studying old scrolls that spoke about the ancient art of dance. Dances from all over the world that meant various things. Some asked for rain, others for fortune, and others were supposed to entertain some incredibly rich and well-known dragons. All dances were beautiful in the eyes of the Ridgeback. How could anyone look at such delicate drawings of dances and say that the movements didn't jump off the page? Someone without an imagination, perhaps, but Delphinium tried to avoid them as best she could.

She looked up from the scrolls when the hour struck. Oh dear, was it so late already? When had she gotten here? About four hours ago, probably. Earlier that day she had practiced her dance and decided to rest while reading. Little had she known the hours had just flown by! Amazing how time seemed to pass, even though its dance was eternally slow to the living. Perhaps it seemed faster to the dead, and eternity would eventually round off to an end? Thankfully, she was very much alive and deeply wishing to stretch her legs. Perhaps through a dance? Ah, no. Moving too much might harm her muscles. She had to rest for now. She had already practiced the art. A change of scene would be beneficial, however.

Delphinium gathered up the scrolls she had yet to finish and made off with them. Everyone knew not to touch anything she left out. Sometimes the scrolls and books would lay there for days, but they were eventually put away. Delphinium never left a mess if she could help it. The scrolls she had taken were just for some light reading. Something to keep her occupied until bed. She had the brief thought to visit Caelus, to read with him, but she had a show coming up. Straining her wings on a light would be awful. Oh well... she could satisfy her need to speak with him through the letters. There was a stack of them waiting in her room, just for her to give them her attention and to reply, dripping all her love into every word. The scrolls would be first, and the rest of the afternoon devoted to her love's letters. What a lovely afternoon this was turning out to be!
