 Artwork by Zonemod ALREADY CHOKING ON MY PRIDE. Zaire is the usual pearlcatcher- a little too over confident, a sprinkle of vanity, and a whole lot more of oblivious obnoxiousness. It’s bliss being him-- not because his life is anything special, but rather because he has this thick veil that blocks out all the negativity of: one that all dragons either admire or secretly envy. There’s not much that can bring him down, and when he’s not busily trying to flirt his way to nobility with Tener, he can be found tinkering like any other dragon of the shifting expanse. It’s like his whole body is electrified. There’s never a second he’s not moving, or talking, or just plain busy- alone or otherwise. His smile, you’ll soon find out, is catchy, his laughter even more so. But his overconfidence is annoying (and he hasn't quite given up his perchant for nabbing whatever he thinks looks interesting), and when it comes to Zaire, it’s impossible to figure out which outweighs what. |
The shifting expanse was a wonderland and one of the greatest places he'd ever known. A troubled child with a penchant for mischief, Zaire never got along with the adults or anyone older than him, but his toothy smile and ridiculous stories made him a great hit with those of his age. Borrowing things came out of natural habit- anything that was lying on the ground was fair game and he and his little misfit crew would often race to grab whatever shiny object had caught their attention this time around. It was peaceful and yet somehow never boring: dangerous but never fatal. It was what he was at perfect harmony with: him, his friends, and his environment. Until one day, he took things a little too far. Further than his toothy smile and his boyish charm could get him out of. He stole (and then soon after, broke) the silver pocket watch of what appeared to be a massive and proud Wildclaw that had wandered into the Shifitng expanse by sheer accident. His world quickly changed soon after. After a horrifyingly pathetic defeat (he was at that awkward and rather inelegant stage just before adulthood, and his magic was pitiful at best), Zaire was pretty much grabbed by the ear like some truant schoolboy and pulled along with the Wildclaw as what they called a "battle prize" in return for a broken pocket watch. They've told him he'll only be allowed to leave if he can fix that pocketwatch or find them a substitute (but they've made it pretty clear that 'pathetic scraps of a worthless tinkerer will not be accepted') and Zaire's been working away ever since. Call it Stockholm Syndrome, but it's likely this pearlcatcher has a thing or two for the arrogant wildclaw that he's unfortunately stuck with. Too bad they're far, far out of his league. |

It's when he joined Bient Drotn, and was made to move from the Lightning flight area to the Plague one- a huge difference in enviroment, people, food, lifestyle, etc. It was a huge change and more than a little traumatizing. But definitely for the better, better friends, better people, better life. So.
