Coralee
The Therapist
"I know, your first exaltion training can be hard. If you want to talk about it, I'm here." A therapist isn't something one would expect to find in Euryale's warlike clan and it took some convincing from Moros to even let her try; between her mirror nature and stubborn support for visible strength, it isn't surprising. But Coralee is proving her value on a case by case basis and there is growing pressure on Euryale to recognize her talent and provide her with a separate lair space. The skydancer is grateful for the support, as she herself is not convinced of her effectiveness. She wasn't always what she is now. Once a fae with aspirations of being a jeweler in her home clan, Coralee ultimately couldn't keep up with the effort needed to sell enough pieces to keep creating. Then she tried being a denmother, taking care of hatchlings and teaching them the basics of life, but the rowdier children frustrated her so much that she eventually quit. At a loss for what to do with her life, she eventually arrived at Clan Mediasolis and asked Moros if he could See something to guide her. After a few days, the massive imperial turned to her, green eyes blank, and said, "There will be a home for you here if you learn to listen to the words without sound and care deeper than any here." After some discussion about the meaning, Coralee traveled to become a therapist. The little fae poured her best efforts into learning how to help others through conversation and empathy, and earned praise for her listening skills, true caring and thoughtfulness. But she still felt inadequate, like she wasn't good enough. She prayed to the dieties to make her a skydancer like her teacher, to help her feel her patient's emotions to better help them, and when she remained a fae, she approached Moros about acquiring a breed change. Though she expected derision for taking a shortcut, the imperial gave her the treasure without anything but a gentle smile. The gods however seemed determined to make her work for her place. Her sensing abilities were weak, only able to access the full range of someone's emotions through physical touch. Only encouragement from the imperial's extended family kept her from giving up and she completed her studies through sheer determination not to let them down. Unsure where to even start once she returned to Clan Mediasolis, Coralee spent most of her day talking to whoever wasn't moving. Thomas, Eos, Zei, Lux Aurum, each eventually pointed her to a dragon who could use someone to talk to. She's slowly finding out their histories, Tecla's previous life as a guardian, the plague clan that still haunts Permetior, the shadowlands that left Mirinae, Orpheus and Shirubake in various broken states. And to see them smile is long-needed proof that she can be good at something. And maybe someday, she can talk to Euryale about her insecurities. Goodness knows she herself has enough of them. |
