Matias was born in a large lair in the Rotrock Rim, it was a rather strange place but it was him home and he was happy there. As he grew older he tended to wander out into the surrounding area alone. He began to study the local wildlife and found himself fascinated by the life that thrived in this hostile environment. Soon he was leaving the lair for weeks at a time. He threw himself into his studies and eventually left his home lair all together. He didn’t do it on purpose, he just left one day and one discovery lead to another and before he knew it he was on the other side of Sornieth.

Finding himself wandering the outskirts of the Hewn City was the last thing he expected but he wasn’t about to wast the opportunity to study new environments and creatures. He made his way into the city and had started asking around about any clans with strong hunting parties that wouldn’t mind him tagging along from time to time. It took a while but eventually his search lead him to Belinda. Belinda was one of her clans strongest hunters despite being a Nocturne. It took Matias a while to convince her but eventually Belinda set up a meeting with the clans leader, Chel. Meeting Chel was a rather intimidating event. She was Sky dancer, the clan leader and the head of their hunting party. An impressive dragon to say the least. They spoke for some time before she eventually agreed to let Matais stay with them as long as he stayed with the hunting party at all times outside of the cave and only came with them to the safer areas.

Matias agreed and for several months this new life worked well for him but eventually he ran out of things to study in the fields he was restricted to. He tried to convince Belinda to take him out with her alone but she wouldn’t have it. Eventually he resigned himself to boredom or perhaps finding a new clan when his friend Pryce suggested simply getting stronger so he wouldn’t be a liability in the field. Together with Pryce and a few other friends Matias started training alone in the areas surrounding the lair. By the time they got caught he was significantly stronger and Chel reluctantly agreed to start taking him into new areas.

Matias sees his new strength as a necessity to continue his research. Like all Nocturnes he is more active during the days around the winter solstice but he does what he has to for his research. Though he will go out during the day if needed he does much prefer to only go out at night when it’s dark and he doesn’t stand out as much to monsters. This allows his to study them without scaring them anyway so it really is just a better situation for everyone. Belinda doesn’t mind but Chel can be rather hard to convince so his nighttime trips are usually confined to the safer area.

Matias knows that there is a big world out there with many more things to discover but he has no intention of leaving his clan any time soon. He may have to fight to get stronger so he can travel as he needs but he knows this place will always be the one he comes back to.

His dream is to study every creature in Sornieth and compile a book of his research notes. He often posts notices asking if anyone has seen the creatures he’s searching for. He has come a long way toward his goal but several extremely elusive creatures stand between him and the finished product.
