Grunts of pain, effort, and fatigue filled the training grounds. The new recruits had promise, but they weren't strong enough to be sent out into battle yet. No, they had a lot of work to do. Virgo could see the vigor in their eyes, however. The spunk in their movements. Their nostrils flared with effort and they kept working. Every hit they took from their partner was returned ten fold, causing quite a ruckus of angry battle cries. This was good. They were working hard. Training hard. They would need the basic skills they were gaining now if they ever hopes to make it in life. Out there... against the monsters that Virgo hated to face. Back when she was new, she was terrified of her first mission. But she hid it behind her usual self. That was a long time ago, however. Now it was her job to make sure the brats that entered the deathguards didn't die during their first mission.

Laksh was gone today. That left only Virgo to man the training. Not that she mind, she was actually used to this. She liked Laksh enough. They were a good partner, worked hard. They were expected to and she tried to be just as pleasant. Not nice, mind you. But she held respect for her partner and she knew they held respect for her too. There was a good relationship between them when it came to working. They knew the boundaries of the other and respected it. They had many students graduate under them with both of their careful...

”Posture!” she yelled. “Without proper posture, you'll be dead in a heartbeat.”

A cry of “yes, ma'am” filled the training grounds. Virgo let out a deep sigh and narrowed her eyes. These young kids... she wondered what would happen to them. Her job was to train them and then make sure they didn't die out in the field. After they left, who cared? Certainly not her, but she couldn't help but feel a shred of... not care. That's not the word for it. She cared for these soldiers only as long as she needed to. Virgo was not a mother. She was not a friend. Her one job was to train those that came to the training grounds to join the deathguard. She wasn't a guardian, either. She had a job and she did it. The cost be damned.

That didn't mean she wanted to see anyone die.

“What did I JUST say?” she yelled again, grabbing her weapon and marching out into the field. She grabbed a soldier on her way by, noting the fear of the Tidelord in their eyes. “I SAID posture! Now watch how bad posture is going to get you killed. YOU!” she pointed her weapon at the poor soul she picked. “Stand as you were before. No, not that way! Yes, that's right. Now pay ATTENTION!”
