The Spiral seemed to spend most of his time wrapped around the Nocturne. From various light drapings to full-on squeezings, the Spiral who practically glowed with Wind elemental energy appeared to prefer being on his dark-colored, serious-faced companion (mate?) than any other state.

Or, at least, that's what he could gather from the very limited view he had. He was laying down on some sort of nest--most of his sight was blocked by the nesting materials, so he could only assume that the Spiral spent more time quite literally around his Nocturne than not. Every time he tried to get up, a large wave of nausea smacked him back down and sent a litany of nonononono crawling up through his throat.

"He hasn't moved for a while, Wys," the Spiral chattered. "I don't think he's dangerous."

Sioryth's ears perked up. They usually kept their voices quiet around him.

This Wys snorted. "Of course he isn't," she dismissed. "What he does have is the very heavy smell of Nocturne around him. And Earth magic."

Heavy scent of...what? But I...am a Nocturne?

"Earth magic?" The Spiral perked up, and he caught a wave of elemental magic up his nose. Woah...what's a Wind adept doing in a cave?

"Yeah. He probably got here through the Forgotten Cave, mighta been swept up in a storm while exploring, got into a scuffle with some Nocturne who rubbed him the wrong way. You know how Gaolers 're so high and mighty about everything."

Gaoler...they think...I'm...I'm a Gaoler?

The tales spun from glimpses of the hardy, shaggy-furred, minimalist-militarist Tundra cousins in the Fortress of Ends whispered softly, almost inaudible in his mind. They're traveling around, fighting and detaining Shadebeasts, right?

The Spiral rolled his eyes. "I was just gonna say that Stoneflight's been looking for an Earth adept! It's been a while since our last one passed through, and even though she's great at stonework, she can't really replace real Earth magic with her Water magic and physical reinforcements -- plus, it'd be great to have someone to back up Stormtail's vague Guardian Charge sense about the Caverns! There's so much we don't know about them -- we could be under an invasion right now and we wouldn't know!"

Ah. Spirals. Sioryth's body involuntarily cringed from the nest. This is why he preferred to let others deal with Spirals.

When he was in his last clan.

"Idiot," the Nocturne slapped the Spiral, playfully bonking his nose. "Yes, we would. Stormtail has the Council of 25 -- which we helped create, might I add -- and the rest of them are out doing the rounds right now."

When he...

"Yeah, but, like, we only stopped the last one by the scales of our teeth! It's just a matter of time before something happens that we can't catch!"

When...

He couldn't remember.
