Nótt of Night

__ They shunned her for the uncommon talents she'd been unfortunately born with. It may have been years ago now, but Nótt remains wary of the world, and she keeps herself strictly on the edges of life's hubbub. When darkness falls over Valhall, Nótt spreads her wings and fly. She soars through the darkness, a piece of the night itself plucked from the skies and brought to life, and guards the dreamers as they slumber. Unnatural, perhaps. Eerie. A shadowy figure that lurks within the darkest parts of the world, yes, but one that does so bearing a kind heart and good intention. |

There are few words as suitable for Nótt as hesitant and cautious. She worries more than she does anything else, constantly finding herself watching the world around her as if expecting an attack, and trying to get close to her is about as pleasant as herding cats. Her eyes most certainly gleam with old hurts and ghosts only she can see. Because the cruelty of the world has left its marks on Nótt. It has hunted her and kicked her down enough for her to grow wary, a skittish animal no longer trusting the hand that feeds it. She will no longer be helpless, at the mercy of others. No, Nótt has painstakingly beaten the weakness from her own bones, and built herself back until all that remains is steel and ice. She has tucked away the weakness and the hurts, hiding her bruised heart where none can touch it. It does mean she tends to come off as aloof or callous, sometimes even mean, but those that learn to see beyond the defensiveness will find a sweet and admittingly tired creature that yearns for closeness. At heart, Nótt is kind. She is patient, willing to try again and again, and she is understanding to a fault; she forgives those most give up on. There is a lot of warmth beneath her frigid exterior. The few that get to see that are lucky, indeed, for they have gained a most loyal friend in this dark dragoness. | __ |

Suspected to be immune to the chill of the deep lair. » Nótt serves as a part-time bounty hunter whenever life turns slow and dreary. The hunt is certainly Nótt's guilty pleasure, though she'll never admit it. » Her innate magic is at its most powerful and volatile beneath the gaze of the moon. U R D Urd the first one to accept her and the first one to understand. The two of them would spend hours together, peering into the Beyond, and seeing things others could barely even imagine. So similar, and yet so different; they were surely fated to become close. For how often does one find a dragon that fits oneself so perfectly? It must have been intended. | __ |

______THE QUIET WATCHER
But more so than enjoying the tranquillity of night, Nótt will meander through the lair and peer into the dreams of all those with them. Weaving gentle, soft dreams for the hatchlings and guiding lost souls through the terrors of their nightmares, she does her best to ensure everyone gets their hours of rest, and her gentle presence is at odds with her somewhat less gentle appearance.
And when she feels like she's done, she joins the warriors patrolling or speaks softly to Hugin as he gazes out over the frozen lands. She peers out alongside him, but they see vastly different things. He sees the world in front of him, but Nótt looks through the veil between worlds and observe the souls wandering there. Like her origins, the full extent of Nótt and her powers remain a mystery. But, perhaps, one day that would change.
WORLDWALKER
With the Veil at her claws, always lurking beyond the reach of the common dragons, Nótt frequently uses it to shift between worlds and locations. Travel through the Veil isn't particularly easy, nor safe, but it is a familiar comfort even in it's danger. She will travel across Sornieth through the shadows of the beyond, will step into the world of the deceased to aid the famished souls or toe the edge of reality, searching for something she know not what. But in the end, she is a Worldwalker and is one of the few that can freely move between the worlds and the eternal - curse or no, it is a burden she is accustomed to bearing.

Nótt - the Dreamwalker
When the fog rolls in over the ground, Nótt stalks behind it like a slinking shadow. She is night itself, a true walker of the void and worlds. Her specialty lies in dreamwalking, a difficult and dangerous art, and she weaves dreams for all those that rest within Valhall - be they travelers, guests or residents. Her reach is far and broad, but she prefers to keep to herself and leave the world to it's own business. And while she looks a fright, she is not a creature of hatred or evil, but more so a misunderstood flicker in the setting sun. |
