His mid-afternoon nap was interrupted once again.
Daemon, disgruntled, sniffed the air, and trying to locate the interloper. As usual, the abundant plants, the air thick with their perfume, confused both scent and sight. The offending dragon was protected. It was entirely possible that he was just imagining things, used to being the centre of attention as he was, but he could feel when someone was watching him. And he had this feeling every afternoon for the past two weeks.
Having missed out on his customary napping in the garden was taking its toll on his princely duties, and his looks both. The other day, one unkind ambassador had the gall to comment on the prince dozing off during a meeting.
Daemon had decided that today was the day this farce would end. He would suss out the unfortunate soul who had dared to disturb his beauty rest.
Obviously they weren’t going to show themselves while he was awake and alert, and he had no luck running around the maze that was the gardens. Since they seemed to get considerable enjoyment from watching his sleeping form, that was what he was going to give them. He settled into the soft grass once again, positioning himself in what he thought would be a most charming position.
Silence.
Daemon knew the watcher was there. But they rudely refused to reveal themselves. Determined to keep up the facade, he refused to budge an inch, despite the growing itch on his back.
The hours passed, and the sun threatened to set. Daemon’s was beginning to admire their persistence, but two could play at that game.
The sky gradually darkened, and he felt the rising chill of night on the wind.
His patience was rewarded with a rustling of leaves. Light, cautious steps drew closer, and closer. Daemon bided his time until he could hear the other dragon’s soft breathing, and pounced.
A surprisingly feminine screech greeted him.
“I’m sorry! I only wanted to see if you were alright, since you hadn’t moved for so long.”
Daemon sighed, releasing the startled coatl, alongside several pink feathers. The poor girl was shaking, and Daemon really couldn’t think of pursuing the afternoons of lost sleep, looking at her. (written by Aeroden)
