"It's not easy being Sabrina's apprentice you know." Lilura's tail whipped back and forth in irritation as she spoke the the clan matriarch, Kayori. The young skydancer and the snapper sat at the edge of one of the koi ponds, long reeds shifting in the breeze.
"No, child, it wouldn't be. Sabrina is trying and exhausting. But you must do it-you were meant for that position from the moment you hatched from that egg."
Lilura observed the old snapper with grudgingly. "Why though? Who says I was meant for it and not another?"
"Savachi did, child. She spied your coming into this realm and she saw your future here. You will make a great healer soon, but for now you must learn." Kayori was patient as she spoke, a voice that showed how much she had bore witness too, how far she had traveled and how far she must go.
"What if I refuse to learn under her any longer? I hate how she heals, it's so unnatural."
"Well that is something you must learn, too. What if you were presented with a Shade Touched, as Sabrina was. She healed Rycarius, returned the warriors mind and health. Could you have done that in your healing methods?"
Lilura faltered at this, there were few methods to heal Shade Touched dragons and beings. Fewer still that fully restored their mind.
Kayori gave a knowing nod, "You will endure this, as Nature endures a blizzard, as Mother has taught us to survive the contagion and as Plaguebringer taught us to embrace it. You will endure, that I promise you. For now, be patient, listen, and one day you will have your own apprentice who complains about you as you complain about her."
