No one actually knows how Melissa was “born”. Some say she appeared from nectar. Some say she is a goddess, disguised as a dragon. Some say she’s always existed. It wouldn’t be a matter of guessing if Melissa actually told everyone her story. But she doesn’t want to. She’s too proud to share what actually happened, even if it is out of the ordinary. A sense of superiority is maybe her only flaw, but it’s not like she acts too much on it. She plays with the young dragons when the guards aren’t around and helps dragons of every nature on their jobs or life. She loves the clan (which she created) and the clan’s wellness is her utmost priority, even over her (3) lives. Name She never actually denied the nectar story. A lone young dragon, wandering through a forest of bleeding hearts, does raise suspicions. She never told anyone how she survived, but she knows. After all, her name is Melissa, which does mean bee, be(e) it a coincidence or not. Who gave her that name? No one ever questioned it. After all, all dragons are named by someone (in her case, a nymph, but it’s still someone). In greek mythology, nectar made the gods immortal, but, alas, she is a dragon! Melissa may have the traditional 3 lives of a leader, but she’s just not the same. Her wounds heal fast, she never got sick and her blood is…gold? She always tries to stay out of the battle, on a rock, watching from afar and it hurts to see others get hurt for her, and she knows her wounds heal fast, but this one doesn’t. She can’t believe she has to let others get hurt for her, just to keep that stupid darn secret! But it’s okay, right? Melissa has to be strong, for her clan. How the clan came to be Well, living in a territory in which you cannot make a step without stumbling across a bleeding heart, the name is obvious. She didn’t want to make a clan as much as she wanted to have a place to call home, but dragons came and came and it needed a name. The clan is flooded with dragons of all flights and sizes and no one gets rejected when seeking for help. As for what the clan is based on, it is matriarchy. No, she doesn’t want the next leader to be related to her, because there isn’t anyone to meet those requirements, but it must be a female, be it non-binary or not. How she knows she has 3 lives? It’s tradition. She created it, with the blessing of the gods. Depending on someone is not her nature, but believing someone was always watching her when she was a baby and fragile and new to the world was comforting and even now she finds herself looking at the sky in difficult moments, like asking a mother for guidance. Anyway, only the leader can get 3 lives and it’s always on a full moon. Maybe it’s about being a shadow dragon and not really liking the sun(so do bleeding hearts), but there, near the water, on a full moon, Melissa felt in her element, strong, rested, like she could do about anything and she wanted others to feel that way too. Now She hasn’t changed much since her early life. She regrets not having a warm and comfortable childhood but she is glad she can offer this to the dragons of her clan. Proud but kind, strong but merciful, wise but acting with her heart, her own existence is contradictory, but she’s a good leader. It’s her nature, she was made for this. ________________________________________ |
