After enjoying the peace of the library for a few hours, you return to exploring the Platforms. There are still a sizable number of islands to explore leaving you quite unsure as to your next location. You land on a bridge, considering your surroundings carefully, only to hear a quiet cough from behind you. Turning, you spy a heavily armored Guardian standing silent, her face lined with exhaustion. She has a large bloodied cleaver strapped to her waist, golden armor plaiting her platinum scales, and pale red wings. She seems to be waiting for something from you, and it takes you a moment to realize you were standing in the center of the path to an entirely barren island. Stepping aside, you offer the Guardian a sheepish grin as she passes.
“Apologies for the rude greeting, but I am quite tired,” The Guardian says as she ambles past, tail dragging over the wood planks, “I am Flashflame, and I just got off my shift as a guard.”

Origins

Flashflame was born to two powerful guardians in the rocky realm of Dragonhome. Her parents were some of the most noble and loyal beings she knew, working tirelessly to protect the clan while also providing her with a good life and bright future. Flashflame lived peacefully as a hatchling, working hard in training with Dindymene and Goldmoon to improve her skills as a warrior and eventual guard. Though both her parents supported anything Flashflame put her mind to, the young Guardian wanted nothing more than to become a guard as they did and protect something in this life.

Eventually, Flashflame rose into adulthood, which was marked by a very important event: both her parents received the highest honor of exaltation to fight alongside the Lightweaver and Icewarden respectively. Though saddened by the thought of walking the world alone, Flashflame returned the support her parents had shown her and chose to escort her parents to their new residences, or at least to the clan border.

Unfortunately, as they were walking, the family was ambushed by a Beastclan pack. The Guardians were not unprepared and were able to defend themselves from most attacks, but none of them had experience fighting the mage the Beastclan had among them. Flashflame was hit by a spell, but instead of wounding her it released something deep within her. A powerful flame engulfed her body, and the Guardian could not control this newly awakened power. With a scream, she blacked out.

When Flashflame next awoke, her head was splitting and she could taste soot and blood on her tongue. Terrified of her actions, Flashflame staggered to her feet, intending to flee, but was met by the worried faces of her parents as they supported her. The two Guardians recounted the events of the battle, the flame engulfing her and then anything it could reach. It had raged through the Beastclan but spared both her parents, even as Flashflame was collapsed on the floor. Her parents had waited beside her, hoping she would awaken.

Though Flashflame felt immense relief at the sparing of her parents, she knew the danger she now held in her heart. She assured both of the Guardians that she was okay now, but perhaps they should continue to their destination on their own, which they did so, albeit cautiously. Once the danger of hurting her family had passed, Flashflame rose and set off again, though not to return to her homeclan. She traveled over the land, considering where would be safe, and ended up in the Shifting Expanse. There, she found the Galestorm Flyers by word of mouth, learning they sought powerful guards who could defend against a dangerous mage. In no time at all, Flashflame became the lead Guard of the clan, ensuring the danger of the Dark Queen was kept sealed deep below the surface. When it came time to move to the Windswept Plateau, Flashflame was more than a little nervous, concerned about moving a dangerous and volatile mage along with potential dangers regarding her own power. Though she remained cautious during the move, she has come to enjoy the new landscape if only for the view.

Flashflame was at one point an excitable and colorful dragon, curious of the world and seeing the good in it. Since discovering her own unpredictable powers and taking on a strangely defined Charge, she has become more withdrawn. Most of her time is spent working, guarding the Dark Queen’s prison with steadfast regalness that leaves no room for distractions. She is entirely professional at this time, her tone hardening and her will becoming steel, for which she got the nickname “Steel Eyes”.

Off duty, Flashflame is an entirely different dragon. She relaxes more, her limbs and movements becoming looser and less strict, a soft, gentle smile often creeping onto her face. Still, there is a fear underneath it all, a distrust in her own control that leads her to avoid physical contact with others. She will speak softly, smile gently, but never once reach a paw or wing to touch with that same softness.

There are some in the clan that Flashflame will allow to touch her, though she does not initiate the contact. Her closest friends, those she trusts to defend themselves if something goes awry. First and foremost, there is Hellebore, who Flashflame knows shares her caution of danger. The two are close, though unalike in so many ways; for example, Hellebore has strong opinions of war, while Flashflame holds none. Interestingly, both are able to see the other’s opposing views as opportunities rather than a verbal battle, and thus get along well.

Flashflame has also been known to get along with Nantis, who is often there to support her in her efforts to protect her charge. The King knows that to take the Charge of defending the world from one single malice is difficult, and he has never been shy of offering his help in her efforts. Finally, there is Shika, who is by far her most surprising friend. The blacksmith is not known to be a warrior, but her sheer muscle mass and skill at wielding large hammers makes her undoubtedly able to defend herself. Yet, at the same time, Shika is soft, gentle and considerate in a way that sorely reminds Flashflame of her own parents. Though the two are not extremely close, they often share conversations in Shika’s forge, a place Flashflame seeks for safety against her powers.
