Biography
Healer Met Ves on December 4th, 2015 Awakened status on March 1st, 2016 Check the icons for details on the most important creatures in Silver's life |
Born in the Hewn City of the Sunbeam Ruins, Silver was drawn to the Starfall Isles by whispers of magic. Here, his innate gifts began to awaken, and he seeks ever greater mastery of the magic in his blood. Silver's greatest talent lies not in combat, however, but in healing. With spell and skill he keeps the Stelaris clan healthy and whole. Though quiet and seemingly aloof to outsiders, Silver is a gentle soul, and easy to befriend if one does not mind his thoughtful silence. This gentleness applies to battle, as well. When the fighting is done, he is first to offer mercy to a fallen foe. He has learned well that not all are willing to accept, however. The scars on his leg are a reminder of that. More powerful than the scars, though, is a memory from when Silver was a hatchling, when a Serthis set him free from a Talonok snare. He knows that it was probably more from spite for the Talonok than mercy for him, and he probably cannot repay that strange kindness directly, but he still tries to pass it on however he can.
Silver is easily one of the most graceful of the Stelaris clan, sometimes competing with Laellar and Seneiti in displays of aerial acrobatics.
A few months after joining the clan, Silver encountered a seriously wounded Serthis while out scavenging in the Carrion Canyon. He managed to save the Serthis's life after persuading him that Silver wasn't there to finish him off, and convinced him to let the dragon take him back to the lair to mend. Trust and healing were both slow in coming, hindered further by the fact that the Serthis is either unwilling or unable to speak. All Silver managed to learn at first (through gesture and a short written exchange) is that the Serthis calls himself Ves.
Silver offered to take Ves home recently, as the Serthis has now mended from whatever happened to him, but Ves declined and asked if he could stay with the clan a while instead. He is intrigued by draconic healing techniques, magical and otherwise, and wants to learn more from Silver. Serthis do not tolerate the weak, but it is not just the weak who suffer from injury and illness, and Ves believes that the ability to heal could make his people even stronger. After all, Ves himself has grown stronger and more cunning since Silver took him in.
The other dragons are still getting accustomed to seeing a Serthis in the infirmary. Older ones like Iris just shake their heads and keep their distance, remembering all too well the treacherous cunning of the serpent folk, while younger dragons who are too young to leave the lair pepper Silver and Ves with questions. Surprisingly patient with the hatchlings, Ves does his best to answer, though his rasping, ruined voice sometimes makes speaking difficult.
Fae and Spirals in the clan actually have started to prefer Ves to help treat their aches and ailments, as the Serthis' nimble hands are a little better suited for dealing with their small bodies than Silver's clawed forepaws. Warier dragons still keep their distance, but Winter at least vouches for Silver's judgement, even if he doesn't quite trust Silver's familiar.
To the amusement of both dragon and familiar, Ves has become quite a skilled dragon-rider, and he accompanies Silver almost everywhere. Having a tail instead of legs isn't really a problem, apparently, and Silver is a strong enough flier that the added weight doesn't present a challenge at all. Silver's taken to wearing a darksteel band around his neck to give Ves something to hold onto for the trickier maneuvers, much to the serthis' quiet gratitude. After they both got used to the idea, Ves and Silver have proved just as skilled at mid-air combat as they are on the ground, with the serthis acting as support for Silver's deadly light blasts; a mending salve keeps the dragon in the air longer, and the lucky creature that manages to dodge a searing spell often does not expect the poison vial that follows. Flight is exhilarating; Ves now understands why the harpies and raptorik love the sky. Even when the trip is quiet and there's nothing to challenge him, the serthis has grown fond of feeling the wind rush past and seeing the earth far below.
Silver defended the rebels during the Twenty-Fourth Arcane Hunger Games, tending wounds and healing the injured wherever he could. Ves acted as strategist, much to everyone's surprise, working with the representative of Clan Naurath in an effort to coordinate the movements of his kin and the other tributes throughout the Arena. According to Ves, though, his actions were perfectly normal; serthis often work in large, coordinated packs, after all, and he often acted as tactician among his own sect before he met Silver. He hasn't been with dragons long enough to forget that! Ruby's claws were very nearly the end of Ves during the fourth day, but one of Treesnek's sons intervened, much to Silver's gratitude. Ves was also grateful, but rather displeased that he had to be rescued by a dragon again. He's been spending all his free time training with the other serthis familiars and the nocturne mercenary Rhiangar since the Games ended. Silver's kind of amused by his stubborn familiar's determination, and usually watches the sparring matches with bandages at the ready.
Silver refused to fight directly against his home clan; he has spent far too long caring for them to bring them harm. The Emperor, however, was another matter. The skydancer fought that abomination with tooth, claw, and spell, and Aered cited his ferocity against it when she granted him pardon and allowed him to come home.
