 The True-Hearted Shield “Those who didn’t know him better wondered at his seemingly insensible fealty; after all, he appeared irrationally loyal to the family that had unceremoniously banished him, to the point of promising vengeance upon their persecutors, and would not hear a word of criticism against their name. Those who knew him better understood the core of his heart, that had never wavered from its true course, not even through the shifting seasons of his life. His was a core of unassailable faith and of wholehearted love, and that had remained unshakeable throughout all that had happened. It centered him, and he was a better man for it.” || ❤ || Former Captain of the Guard to the Cremonesi household when they were still in power, Cillias was dismissed from his post for an improper indiscretion, and thereafter lived for a couple of years in the company of a group of mercenaries led by the feisty Aeris, putting his battle skills to good use. When news of the Cremonesi family having been attacked reached his ears, however, he was filled with anguish and incensed rage, and insisted upon leaving the group to look for Velkan Cremonesi, whom he believed was still alive, despite all the rumours claiming otherwise. Thankfully, Aeris and the other mercenaries turned out to be less mercenary than expected, and it was with some help from them that Cillias managed to locate Velkan; thereafter, they remained under Aeris’ protection until Velkan was well enough to travel, and then journeyed to the safety of Claribel’s clan, since even Aeris knew that that was where they would have the best chance of survival. By that point, Cillias had decided to stay as Velkan’s bodyguard, despite the other telling him that he was no longer bound to do so, and could be free if he so desired. Since then, he has lived quite contentedly with Velkan, and almost never lets the other out of his sight. As befits the requirements of his former post, Cillias is extremely skilled with blade and general close-range combat, although he prefers not to engage unless absolutely necessary. Indeed, he’s more likely to act when Velkan is in danger, rather than himself, despite the other always reminding him that he really ought to have a greater care for his own safety as well. When not on bodyguard mode, he is generally warm and genial, although at times he can be given over to moments of melancholy. |
