Biography
Roen was the first dragon to find her way to the old oak in the back of Perihelion Watch.
Born a cold winter night, at first she reveled in the dancing lights of the magic within her Arcane Flight. She gave birth to many hatchlings and lived happily... until... the "worth" declined with time.
She fled Arcane when her lair tossed her out to make room for more hatchlings... she took refuge in the woods... it was quiet and for a few months, she managed to live in peace, hidden away.
But one day, all of the Nature flight whispered and rumbled and bloomed and roared in excitement for the annual festival. The Gladekeeper arose and every last plant in her domain started vibrating in her wake. Taken by surprise, Roen panicked and flew straight for the thickest part of the forest, hoping to find shelter: she stumbled on this incredible thick old oak and found a small hollow under one of its largest branches. The ancient tree was perfectly still, and unlike many others in the woods, did not shake in tune with the festival, only listening with kindness in its leaves.
That's where Baltia found her curled up one night. At first, she was scared to be tossed out again... but the founding pearlcatcher of the Perihelion Watch extended her friendship, and she was taken in.
With time, Roen grew comfortable in her new clan. Her eyes grew lighter and lighter as joy returned to her heart, until it could no longer be identified as arcane-aligned. Here, ancient dragons are respected and sought out for their wisdom, and never would they be rejected and left to fend for themselves. Dragons are meant to live in groups. Perihelion Watch goes through life and struggles as a clan, and if food runs low, they starve together. If room begins to be scarce, they work to expand and quit laying eggs for a while.
When another old one ended up in the oak, they were welcomed too and sheltered from hostile clans. Then another. And another! Word spread faster and faster, more and more old rejected dragons came in, and soon, the majestic oak became a colorful, lively dragon shelter at the back of the clan's territory. Perihelion provides
It was only a matter of time before Roen would come across a dragon who would capture her heart. Citrine arrived at the Old Oak with great dignity and refused to let others care for her. Her clan had been dissolved, and its dragons were being disseminated among allied clans. She chose Perihelion Watch in hopes to help.
The same age as her, Roen respected her for her hard work and unshakable mood, but also saw through her intransigent exterior. She found a strong spirit, but incredibly kind, kindred, even. The two wise old ladies now sleep together atop the oak, and Citrine can nestle in her lover's large curled up body and finally feel whole.
They supervise most of it now. Roen was the First Old Oak rescue, and makes sure newcomers feel cared for and accepted as they are. Their stories are usually not happy ones, but here, they can finally rest and find hope again for the future.
