The undead roam the land, brought back by Necromancers for black deeds. Few believe their existence. Few want to believe that such things are real. Yet they do exist, they are real, and they walk among other dragons. These undead beings are zombies and lichs. Liches are rarer, more difficult to come across, as they possess power and intellect. Shaitan is a lich and his intelligence and power surpasses even that of a normal lich. That is why his creator, the one who dragged him back from death, refused to kill him. Yorthziriel is the necromancer responsible for creating Shaitan. He is a maniac when it comes to necromancy and devotes himself to it in mind and body. Whenever he is unable to find a subject, he turns his experiments on himself. Of late, his interest has been in performing the perfect resurrection. To bring something back from death to what it was in life would be an invaluable skill. Usually, when his experiments do not yield the anticipated results, the subject is sent back to whatever death they had. But, Yor was unable to do this to his failed experiment, Shaitan. There was something about the intelligent lich that stopped him. So, instead, he put the lich to work as his servant and constant test subject. Shaitan is undead and therefore incapable of showing emotions as regular dragons. Mostly, he is a stoic presence, lingering in Yor’s shadow. He is always near at hand to carry out whatever his master desires. There is nothing else that occupies his time. In fact, there is nothing he shows interest in. The most interest - delight, perhaps - he ever shows is when it comes to torturing living creatures. It is then, and only then, a raspy gurgling sound issues forth from his cowl. This is the closest noise he makes that could be interpreted as laughing. As he is not living, Shaitan is incapable of obtaining sustenance from food. Rather, his body draws energy from living things around him. Plants and small animals unfortunate enough to get too close to him end up dead in seconds. Dragons fare better, but even they experience fatigue, exhaustion and headaches when too close. For that reason, few of the dragons in the clan are willing to approach him and generally give him a wide berth should they be forced to encounter him. ~ by MizuKuma |
