From the person who owned him before me:

HUMBERTdoctor Humbert, thank you very much⸺is a scholar, specialised in French literature, poetry, and death. This he writes books about, some for reading and some for teaching⸺he used to be a teacher himself.

He likes to read, he likes to listen to classical music, or just to stare into the distance in a philosophical manner. Sometimes he narrates himself doing things (luckily the other dragons don't have to hear this).

Every so often, when literally no one could ever possibly be around, Humbert switches off the classical music. He sorts through his records, a secret stash under his desk, and pulls out a very... niche kind of genre. He loads it up, sits down, takes a deep breath, and begins to write his musings to the sweet, dulcet tones of Norwegian Death Metal. Nothing soothes the soul more!

Some days, Humbert misses the days when he could say he was a teacher. He finds himself slipping back into his 'teacher's' voice, instructing people when they are his peers. It can be quite frustrating and embarrassing to get told off for being condescending; in those cases, he just tries his very best to act like he really wasn't trying to be. Telling the other dragon he simply... forgot. When the other has turned his back he rolls his eyes, shakes his leaves and feathers, and mutters something French under his breath.

As Humbert walked across the soft grass, he saw some dragonets learning about the plants of Sornieth. As he strolled over he thought in his head, Ha! Those little dragonets will never learn ANYTHING without MY help. As the dragonets saw him coming they squealed in delight, while the dragons who were teaching, watched and rolled their eyes when he said, “Ah, what are you learning about?” The dragonets replied,”We’re learning about Sornieth plants!” “Ah yes, plants. Very important to know about them incase you’re ever in the wild. Why, if I were in the wild I’d make a new village that looks better than a kingdom, after all, I really do know practically everything you can think of.” He said with a smuggish-smirk on his face. “Really?” They little dragonets asked with awe in their voice. Humbert just loved the attention. “But of course! I’ve researched plants, animals, elements, lakes, rivers, the ocean, why I could keep listing till nightfall!” He said with a grin on his face. The other dragons were bored enough with him. “Alright, they better get back to studying so they can actually get better.” “But of course! Why didn’t I think of it before!? I can teach them myself, after all, you already know that I’m obviously the smartest of all the dragons in the land!” He said with a big opened-mouthed smile on his face. As he said this, every teaching dragon thought: There goes the afternoon of learning, cause they knew there was no stopping Humbert once he had his mind set on a plan, being the stubborn dragon he is. As all of them walked away, Humbert was VERY pleased with himself. Those dragonets with be taught better than any other dragonets in the world from me!

As Humbert walked up to the board, he said,”Now, you see this plant? What is is called?” As he pointed to a bunch of illustrous flowers.
One of the dragonets replied,”It’s called Lace Lantana! It’s fruit is delicious but the leaves aren’t good to eat and could give you minor poison.” “Oh dear, what have they been teaching you?! This is a very rare flower called the Lacetena, it’s petals are delicious and the fruit you really don’t want to eat, though it does taste good.” He said matter-of-factly. “Are you sure?” The little dragonet asked doubtfully,” I could have sworn that the leaves make you sick.” Nonsense!” Humbert said with a done of indignation. “The leaves are COMPLETELY fine to eat, it’s the fruit you have to look out for, can give you food poisoning.” Humbert replied. The little dragonet stared at him for a second then said,”Well, I really wish I could stay but, I have to go do something else. Is anyone else busy right now?” He said looking at all 9 dragonets. 4 of them agreed that they were VERY busy and had to leave. As the 5 walked away, Humbert yelled after them,”You’ll be the dumbest in the group if you don’t learn from me, I’m simply gracing you with my knowledge!” As he frowned at them, he turned back to the 5 that had stayed. “Well then, you are the lucky dragonets that will be learning from one of the smartest dragons in the clan.” He said with such pride in his voice, you could almost believe it. “Now, as you can see…” he said, pointing to the picture of the flowers, “These flowers grow in only the driest of places, and only the wettest of places, due to they can store up water and that they need lots of water. There are 3 types of these flowers, 1 that lives in dry places and 2 that live in wet places.” He said in his *teacher voice*. As the dragons watching heard what he said, they were impressed by what he was saying was actually true. Then they rolled their eyes again as he said, “Now that you know the Lacetena, does anyone know what the types that live in the rainforest are called?” “Um, no… you didn’t teach us that, we haven’t been taught that since that was what we were learning.” Another little dragonet said confusedly. Realizing he had made a small mistake of not mentioning where they live, Humbert replied, “Ah, um, yes. Well, I thought that you uh, surely would know so I had to see just what they taught you.” He said unconvincingly. The dragonets then rolled their eyes and said unenthusiasticly, “Thanks for the, really good lesson buuuuuut shouldn’t you be training or hunting or something?” “Oh of course, I have to go hunting. By hunting and foraging for our lair, I’m practically one of the most important dragons alive here!” He said with awe for himself in his voice. As he walked away, the hatchlings told themselves to never listen to what he says ever again.
