Quote:
Azeban is a hunter, which might seem strange considering his breed, but that's exactly what he uses to his advantage. His prey see him as a harmless, plant-eating Tundra, and don't mind his advance. But he is in fact, a meat-eater, a carnivore, and--when it's convenient--sometimes even a cannibal. He usually preys on creatures that meat-eating dragons devour, but sometimes he'll attack weaker familiars and even smaller/weaker dragons. Of course, none within his own clan, and usually only loners or rogues. Although his clan-mates do not mind his strange taste for meat, they aren't very happy about his appetite for other dragons. He has been respectfully asked to refrain from cannibalism. He has politely promised the clan leaders he will dine primarily on acceptable meat. However, when it suits him, he still preys on other dragons. He just became more clever and surreptitious about it.

Azeban knew who he was since he hatched. He knew from a very young age that plants just weren't enough. He didn't understand how his parents and siblings could survive off them. He hated the taste of them and no matter how many plants he ate, he never felt full. He watched as the meat-eaters of his birth clan hunted and voraciously ate the meals they caught themselves. One day, he stole a piece of meat when no one was looking and took a bite. It was delicious! He knew from then on that that was going to be his path, despite what others might think. Dragons born under the Light element are supposed to be philosophers, to aspire for pursuit of truth. Although he didn't consider himself a philosopher, he decided that being honest with his clan would be the right thing. He told them of his preferred diet and why he felt that though unconventional, there was nothing wrong with it. He explained that he would help hunt and would also still help gather, as long as he wasn't forced to eat the plants he collected for the clan. Despite his logical and thought-out argument, his clan was stunned and uncomfortable with this revelation. He assumed this was because they were originally a Nature clan and Nature dragons aspire to be most nurturing to flora and fauna and perhaps somehow he was disrupting the natural way of life. The clan worried about him and wondered if this appetite of his was due to his mother being a Mirror dragon. Not wanting to cause trouble to his parents or to cause disorder to the clan, Azeban decided to leave his birth-clan. He lived as a rogue for a short while, moving quickly from clan to clan before they could find out his strange diet. Then one day he happened upon Vixen's Clan. He was just passing through, but he noticed at once that there were many strange ones in this clan, and they were welcomed not shunned. So he stayed for a little bit. After time, he felt comfortable and told his clan leaders about himself. He figured that if they did not like it, he could just leave. But though they were curious about his diet, they did not seem displeased.

In fact, he now gets along well with quite a few within the clan. The demon dragons approve of him (of course), though he doesn't interact with them much. He does, however, get along rather well with Tyrix (a Wind Fae), Wraith (a Plague Gaoler), Tyrannia (an Earth Wildclaw), and Topaz (an Ice Mirror). Tyrix and him hang out a lot and truly enjoy each other's company. Generally, Azeban would consider Faes edible (since they are small and usually not very intimidating), but Tyrix is different. He's tough and not afraid of Azeban. Wraith and Tyrannia (best friends) absolutely do not fear Azeban, for they know they are bigger and stronger than him. Thus, they have gotten to know him and realize that he's a pretty cool guy. Wraith doesn't care at all about his diet. Tyrannia is a little uncomfortable with it, but is his friend anyway, even though her mate is less okay with him. Azeban is surprisingly one of the few dragons that Topaz actually likes. In fact, she admires him. She likes how unashamed of himself he is and respects his go-getter attitude. They have a sort of mutual respect for each other (since he quite admires the voracious attitude of Mirror dragons).

When Islwyn (a Plague Tundra) joined the clan, he became close with her very early on. Her birth-connection to religion and pride for a deity made her stand out a bit in the lair, which made her then connect to the other who stood out a lot--him. Most dragons in Vixen's Clan are a bit odd or eccentric, but a carnivorous Tundra is a bit pushing it--considering that there are so many sweet, gentle Tundras in the clan (like the Matriarch's mate, for example). Since many dragons in the lair left him alone, he enjoyed her company and was happy to hear her vent about her birth-clan and the lack of "faith" in this clan. He knew she just needed someone to talk to and was happy to be the one she always came to. Over time, they grew a strong friendship. He initially felt attracted to her and wondered if she could be the mate he had been looking for, but she upfront let him know that she didn't feel that way about him and he was cool with that.

It was a long time before he found someone he'd truly consider his mate. But then one day, while he was hiding in the bushes on a hunt, he spotted something he never imagined he'd see. Through the bushes to the left of him was a Light Skydancer--fishing in a river. He watched her do it so naturally as if she'd been doing it all her life. He admired her in silence for a bit, until she noticed somebody was watching and called him out. After a short exchange, he continued his hunt. When she realized that he was odd in the same way as her, she talked with him congenially, and introduced herself as a loner named Mazikeen. From then on, they ate together and shared everything else together, as mates and best friends.

At one point, she did cheat on him with a Light Ridgeback in the clan. It was an act of anger and hate, and he understood her heart. He forgave her and welcomed her son as a sort of "step-son" of his. Although he didn't much care for Stallion, the one she'd bred with, they all lived in the same region of the clan and so he continued to treat him respectfully. He always knew that Mazikeen was a wild one, and couldn't possibly imagine loving her less for any reason. He also became very fond of Hawkins (her illegitimate son) and spent lots of time with him.
