Shadow is blind and has mechanical wings. She has these because her wings are otherwise limp and useless, worn over years of unknown hardships.

Creak, the sound of metal scraping against a polished steel floor abruptly awoke the tiny nocturne. "Hello?" She softly called, her ferret still fast asleep under her neck. No response came, and Shadow shook her head. These damn wings woke me up again. You'd think I would be used to them by now.

"I hope Xan comes over soon," she hummed to Rascal, her 3-year-old black-footed ferret. He peered up at her for a moment, only to scamper along her tail where he nestled himself in between two of the gears embedded into her wing, the cool metal pressed against his warm fur. "We need more herbs." She rose, letting her tail sweep the floor behind her as she felt her way to her medicinal cabinet. "You called for me?" a rough voice announced from the entry. "Hey!" Shadow whipped back around, nearly dropping her moss-scale jar in her excitement. "Yeah, actually. I was just telling Rascal that I hoped you'd be here soon." Xanthos padded through the arc of the den, ducking under the hanging baubles and plants that littered the entryway. "I heard, yeah," he chuckled, his spangyroo familiar stumbling over the plants behind him. "Beau and I just stopped at Shadowrift's to pick up some jade and mintleaf for you." He placed the bundled herbs in Shadow's outstretched talons and gently closed them around the plants. "Thank you, again." Shadow turned back to her cabinet, hanging the dried plants on a hook, and grabbing her coin pouch perched atop the wooden structure. "No, stop." Xanthos shook his head, grabbing the pouch and placing it back on the shelf. "I'm not going to let you pay me. It's really not a big deal." He looked down at the nocturne. Her wings were twice the size of her own body, though shriveled and beaten. They were attached to huge copper braces, build to provide stability at the cost of comfort. "If you could roll your eyes, I know you'd do that to me right now." The tiny dragon clawed him, frowning up at him. "Is that a blind joke? Screw you." She muttered, whipping back around to let her tail hit him one last time. "Ow!"
