Biography
It is rumored that long ago, Skinless stripped the flesh from their lean bodies of their own volition, as a message to the rest of dragonkind that they were invulnerable to pain, and could not be frightened by threat of violence. It has since become an inherent trait. Despite the horrifying appearance of the the Skinless, rest assured that they are not in discomfort. The exposed nerve endings of muscular and connective tissues are far less sensitive. Their surface vessels release rivulets of fresh blood, which help to cleanse dirt and bacteria amassed in a typical day. This emission is constant and accumulates as a tacky, clotted substance which covers them like a protective layer. They will avoid water at all costs, as washing away the bloody coating will leave them vulnerable to native infections. |
| Though his parents Agony and Hatchet are loyal to the Arcanist, they make a trip once each month to the nearby Scarred Wasteland to conceive in Plague territory. Agony and Hatchet had learned early on that hatchlings not born and blessed by the Plaguebringer would not only be rejected by their own kind; they would die for lack of early exposure to the virus they thrive on. During a particularly wearying journey to the Scarred Wasteland, Hatchet laid only one egg. Though Agony cherished the young Skinless after he hatched, Hatchet could not bear to be around him. She feared he was an omen that she was becoming infertile. Because he had no siblings, the young Mirror grew up to be quite peculiar. His lack of social exposure led to many strange and alienating personality traits. In fact, Carrion earned his name for his scavenging tendencies. Though able-bodied and strong-willed enough to hunt for himself, Carrion prefers a stale meal over a fresh kill. The thick, cold flavor of blood pleases him. He will go out of his way to find a carcass that another dragon has not quite finished off. True to his kind, Carrion also adamantly refuses to bathe, fearing that a disruption of the surface of his flesh would lead to an infection of his vulnerable, skinless body. Carrion is innovative and thinks outside of the box in a way that enables him to manipulate and control any situation. He is self-sufficient and holds loyalty to no dragon because his lack of social integration during childhood made it increasingly difficult for him to form strong bonds in the future. Though he is perhaps the strongest child both physically and mentally that his parents have ever given birth to, Carrion stayed with Aster Clan much longer than any young dragons do. Many say it was because he had a crude fascination with the Plague ambassador and her mysterious second agenda, but in reality, Carrion's reluctance to leave is reflective of the bond he built with his father. Not one to study up on his magic spells, Carrion quickly resorts to physical violence when attacked. He has a low opinion of other dragons and believes each dragon should cover his own skin, but longs to be received into a clan where his oddities will be overlooked. Whether this is because he has a secret desire to be liked and accepted or because he would like to plot something unbothered? Arcanist knows. |
