Magus Co-Founder of Siltaria's Lair, Magus is an Alchemist but fights by Silatria's side when it's time to fight. He has a reputation for strange things happening around his experiments...his colors have changed multiple times! But none of his potions and experiments ever work the same way twice. Magus is a tough cookie in the Coli, though! Speaking of cookies....  |
Gingersnap Cookies
...GRRRRR RAWR. Who ate all the ginger snaps?...

2 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon coriander 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 cup vegetable shortening 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup molasses 1 large egg 1/4 cup sugar for rolling |
Roll dough into small balls and place on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Take a flat bottomed glass and smear with butter. Dip into some sugar to coat and smash the balls down a little bit. Bake for 7-10 minutes at 350 degrees. Allow to cool a few minutes and remove to cooling rack. Eat with a good cup of chai.
How Magus Changed His Colors - Again

BOOM, echoed through the Lair and a billow of smoke roiled across the front entrance to the cavern. Everyone raced outside to see what was going on, to see an older Mirror dragon scrambling out of the small separate cavern where Magus kept his tinkering lab. Although Magus was a mirror dragon, this mirror was completely different colors.
"Ginger SNAPS, that was loud!" he yelled as he backed further away from the lab and the smoke, shaking his head and checking both of his ears with his claws. He was not Magus colors, but that WAS Magus' voice. He turned to look at the crowd now gathered behind him, snickering.
"What are you looking at? Someone get me a couple of buckets of water to put the fire out!" He still spoke overly loud, and caused softer snickers that he didn't react to so they hoped he didn't hear them.
A few older hatchlings were sent running for the fire buckets, and Siltaria and Cali went to Magus side to steer him towards the First Aid case in the main cavern.
As Magus sat down, he suddenly cried out again and held up his hands. "What's this? Did it work by breathing the smoke instead of drinking the elixir? Why this is fantastic! I must write it down...oh. My journal is gone, isn't it?" He looked mournfully at Siltaria as she cleaned up his face.
"I am sorry honey, I think with the amount of smoke still billowing out, the journal is probably gone. We'll get you a new one, don't worry."
"Mama, Papa!" Cali spoke up as she came with another basin of water and a towel. "Dad's lab is...strange. That's not smoke anymore. Uncle Yahalii says it's steam. The explosion opened up a hot springs!"
"A hot springs! Why how fortunate for us! That's not strange at all! We'll have to make a proper bath with it then!"said Magus, pushing aside Siltaria's efforts to clean his smudged neck and started to rise up.
Cali put a hand on his shoulder and made him sit once more. "That's not the strange part, Papa. The walls, all the stones, have turned...funny colors! They say we should come look once you are cleaned and taken care of."
He tried to rise again, and Siltaria pushed him down. "You can see strangeness once you catch a look at yourself in the mirror. The color is permanent it seems, and you only have some scrapes and bruises. Now sit while I get the mirror." Siltaria turned away and tried to hide her smirk and chuckle.
When Magus was given the mirror to look at himself, he simply blinked for a few moments and then moved the mirror around, brought up his tail and then his hands for closer inspection, muttering low to himself. Then he rose on his legs, no longer shaky, and no one stopped him as he ran into the lab.
At the far back wall, a steaming waterfall fell into a small concave impression in the stony floor that was being deepened by others of the Lair. But the walls and the floor, were now an iridescent rainbow of blues, greens and purples.. He spun around to look everywhere.
"Oh no! This is fantastic, but I can't do it again - my journal had all my formulas!" Magus waved his hands in despair. "It will take forever to recreate this!" He then started peering under all the loose stones and chips the others were piling up as they dug a bathing basin below the steaming waterfall.
Cali leaned close to her mother, and whispered, "I took care of the journal, Mama, just like you always told us to."
Siltaria patted her on the shoulder, "Good girl, Cali, we'll have peace for a little while now..."
