Biography

Quote:
Blessed with the gift of the wood, this young hatchling is being sent off in hopes of fostering closer bonds with other clans. Child of one of the second-in-commands, and one of the hunters, this child's parents hope that their child will be given a role in their future home.

EPIMETHEUS
Epimetheus is a hotheaded, Imperial. He's impulsive and just a bit too cocky. Although brash and rudely ignorant, he's untouchable on the battlefield. Epimetheus quickly made his way through the ranks, until filling his namesake's position as the General. He's out of touch with others, even though he still tries to be social and a part of the community. His cockiness, however, disappears whenever he encounters Skaia. A lady with too many mysteries around her.

After a journey that felt like decades he stumbled upon the Flowing Vines clan where his eyes fell upon an Imperial who was as beautiful as the very sky itself and instantly fell in love. He asked Demeter if he could stay and that he would do most anything for a place in this clan.

She obliged saying that he would take the place of a warrior who would be leaving soon. "Epimetheus was hatched here," Demeter said softly. "The parting will be bittersweet." She motioned towards a Pearlcatcher. Besides his seraph wings, he was rather plain. He was talking to the lovely Imperial and from afar he could see their burning love. "What's your name stranger," Demeter questioned. And in one swift moment of lust and longing, he uttered the first words that came to him, "My name is also Epimetheus."
Demeter quirked an eyebrow. She nodded hesitantly and escorted him to his new spot. The Pearlcatcher was leaving and he quickly stopped to acknowledge the Imperial. "I hope you will prove yourself worthy of staying in this clan. They do not need lowlifes infesting them." And with that, the Pearlcatcher went away, most likely saying his goodbyes.

Epimetheus shrugged his comment off apathetically. He could prove himself to this clan, his parents made sure of it. He could hold his own in war, and he was plenty sure if it came to it, he could protect the entire clan alone. Epimetheus took pride in his roots, he knew his strength and wasn't afraid to show it. Epimetheus held himself high and radiated power with each stride. He would not let a Pearlcatcher he would never see again phase him.

He observed his surroundings, taking in his new home. Not quite like where his parents resided in, but not completely alien. He was still in the Gladekeeper's domain after all. He began to walk around, wanting to grow accustomed to his current space. After wandering aimlessly, he found the beautiful Imperial once more. She was still looking to the trees in silent mourning. He approached her slowly. Epimetheus had always been quite smug and cocky around ladies, but something about this Imperial made him tread lightly.

"Excuse me, madam," Epimetheus softly said while behind the Imperial, "a penny for your thoughts?" She jumped slightly but regained her composure. She turned around to look at him. Her eyes were tear-filled and her mouth set in a frown. "I don't think I've seen you before, you must be new," the Imperial stated, her eyes staring blankly at him. "I am Skaia. My husband just left to serve our Lady of the Glades if you wanted to know why I am so distraught. I know it is a higher purpose, but I just can't help but grieve." She turned away from him, sadly searching for guidance in the leaves of the forest. "It's always hard when those you love must leave. But it's essential to know that both of you will overcome it and that though you are parted, your love will not fade."

Skaia turned her head to the side and sigh. "You are quite wise, stranger." She faced him once more, "pardon me but, what is your name?" "Epimetheus," he bowed to her respectfully. She laughed lightly, "how peculiar, that was my husband's name. I suppose he will not be completely gone." "Are you suggesting that I replace your husband, due to our names ma'am?" She cracked a smile. "Please do not think of me as so forward, you'll have to earn my heart Epimetheus." "All in due time fair maiden." She smiled bittersweetly. "I'll have to go, but thank you for this chat Epimetheus."

Epimetheus would come to know the ins and out of the Flowing Vines Clan, as well as the stories of those who lived in it before him. Many dragons would talk fondly of those long gone and would answer any question or two Epimetheus had. However, there were exceptions to this. Epimetheus learned this on a normal sunny day after a successful hunting session. He had been conversing with Anahera casually about it and not much seemed out of the ordinary.

"It's quite humorous to me that despite Ania filling the role of the patriarch and Demeter filling the role of the matriarch, neither of them calls themselves such. And what's even more humorous to me is that Ania publicly hates Demeter," Epimetheus commented to the Spiral. She laughed loudly and gave him a mischievous smirk. "Well, it wasn't always like that." He looked at her confused, a signal for her to continue. "Oh, you don't know?
Before Demeter was in charge there was another dragon. Her name was Hestia and her mate was Hades." "How come Demeter never talks about them?" Anahera laughed again, "Demeter hates Hades to this day, and hates him more than she hates Ania. She'd do anything to get rid of his existence." "Why did they leave?"

Anahera was no longer laughing. She furrowed her brows and looked away. "No one knows, they just went and left. Eurynome was the last to see them and they didn't tell her a lick. They've been gone for ages, but it's still hard to acknowledge it, especially when they never told us why." Epimetheus was at a loss for words, he put a claw on Anahera gently. "I'm terribly sorry you had to go through all of that." Anahera shook her head, then put on her sunny disposition, "Quit the pity, the world is still spinning!" She laughed once more and took off.

The new information was a little shocking to Epimetheus, and his curiosity grew. He eventually approached Skaia to ask if she had any further information. The Imperial was confused by his request, but nonetheless told him what she knew.

"I wasn't part of the clan at the time, but my husband was. It's always haunted him, I just never knew why. Perhaps it's because I never knew the elders and just didn't know what he was going through. But still, there were days where he would be so distraught over it, he'd isolate himself. I didn't know what to do at the time. I just gave him his space and pondered." She seemed distracted by her memories while she retold this. Skaia was frowning again, but it wasn't the grieving expression she adorned when her previous mate left. No, this expression was filled with confusion and accented by anger. Epimetheus treated the subject carefully, cautiously asking, "did he never try to tell you why he was so plagued by their absence?"

Skaia's features grew angrier. "He couldn't even tell me when he went out for a hunt half the time. There were days when he felt more like a stranger than a mate." She paused, realizing that her anger was growing. Her face softened, "but I made it work, or at least tried to. He was all I ever knew." Epimetheus grew concerned for Skaia, however, he decided to not to push the subject. "That's all in the past I suppose," Skaia forlornly whispered.

"You know me now," Epimetheus stated softly. She looked up at him and smiled, "Yes I do know you now." She closed her eyes slowly and her smile grew. "I do know you." She shook her head and laugh. "Isn't it just funny how life works out," she said happily. "Quite humorous," Epimetheus agreed. Skaia rested her head on Epimetheus lightly and sighed.

It was quite the while before the topic of Skaia's husband was brought up again. The next time,
Skaia had been quiet all day, lost in isolated contemplation. She had moments like this of course, but none had lasted so long as this. He grew anxious at her withdrawal from others, fearing the worst. He approached her gently, scared that he had made the wrong move. Skaia merely looked up at him and stared.

"Penny for your thoughts sweetheart?" Skaia smiled a little, Epimetheus had begun to ask that question to lighten the mood before a serious discussion and Skaia always appreciated it. She sighed and replied, "Merely thinking about the past again." "Why is it making you so distant?" Skaia thought for a moment before admitting, "I feel as if I took certain things for granted." "Would you like to explain?" Skaia grew silent and looked down at the ground before taking a deep breath.

"I don't miss my ex-husband, and the guilt eats at me terribly. I feel as if I should try much harder to deflect your advances, for his sake. But I can't. Quite frankly you were all he was not. Thinking about it now, with him gone, I'm not sure if I ever loved him. I'm not sure if he ever loved me." Epimetheus was silent. Skaia continued, "I think it's better that he's gone. My judgment is no longer clouded." Skaia turned to him, "It's quite funny, I've never felt happier than when I'm around you." Epimetheus smiled, "Your old mate did not know how to treat you, but I swear to you Skaia, I'll treat you like the queen you are." Skaia smiled, "I know Epimetheus."
