"What do you mean, 'like a clockwork orange?'"
Sapidus does not remember much before his vow of service to the Stormcatcher. He spent so much time in the deity's employ, tinkering with secret projects, that he unknowingly became the subject of an experiment himself--the creation of a living clockwork. It didn't happen all at once. The process was gradual; replacing part of a limb here, a few spines there. Sapidus was so focused on his own work that he barely noticed his transformation. In the end, he was so pleased with his new look that he asked Stormcatcher if he might return to the Shifting Expanse and find new subjects to mechanize. His wish granted, Sapidus spends his days happily excavating new tunnels and mineshafts for precious metals and lair space. When he is not in the Laboratoire, he goes out smashing dangerous monsters for their raw materials, or spends time with his beloved mate Callinectes. He is, however, mildly disappointed that his own progeny don't share any of his clockwork traits. |
