Biography

Asim is the clan leader of the Spotted Rock Clan. After fate brought him and Cynaeric together, they founded the clan and decided Asim would take up a leadership role, so Cynaeric could focus on her visions. His primary role is protecting the clan, and while he has trained his sons to lead their own guard, Asim still appears to be the strongest dragon around. Asim also provides structure and assigns duties to the other dragons. He tends to help wherever he can, and he does not like to take up a high and mighty position over the others. Instead, he will stand beside them, and help with tasks such as hunting for food. He likes to stay active and can often be found checking up on other members of the clan, always contemplating and evaluating if something needs to be changed. » friendly, caring, leader » male, he/him » Asim is a name of Arabic origin, meaning "protector, guardian, defender". |

| Because of her seer role and her solitary nature, Asim doesn't interact as much with Cynaeric as he does with the others. She prefers to do things on her own. Still, they respect each other immensely, and Asim values her friendship and skills greatly. |
| Every spare moment is spent with Magnet, if possible. Asim loves to (very carefully) cuddle up to him, and Magnet often sleeps in the crook of Asim's neck. Due to the danger and impracticality of carrying a cat around all the time, Magnet's been placed into the care of clan scribe Nijem. |
| As Asim has practically raised Nijem, he trusts them like no other and it was no surprise he gave them the role of clan scribe. Nijem's gentle and friendly personality matches greatly with him, and Asim is very good at understanding Nijem's wants and needs. |

King is a Quillrunner (not a King Quillrunner, oddly enough) Asim found when he was quite young still. Like most familiars in the clan, he met him on one of his training sessions. Unlike most Quillrunners, King showed no fear when Asim faced him, and that made him an excellent companion. Together they hunt for food for the clan, with King often having a herding sort of role. Occasionally, on the odd moment Nijem is unavailable, King watches over Magnet the cat. |

HISTORY
Even though most Guardian dragons begin The Search after becoming an adult, Asim was born into protecting others. In fact, even while still in his egg, he could feel a certain presence nearby. A very small presence. Through the shell of his egg, Asim felt the tiniest glow of life, something that felt different than anything else. Soon, he hatched, and a young Asim was greeted with the view of a sleeping kitten. It must have been born no more than a day before him, and apparently had sought out the warmth of Asim's egg.
Immediately overcome by a sense of responsibility, Asim knew he had to protect this kitten. It felt like his entire life depended on it. Enchanted by the little furry being, his fascination soon was replaced with dread. He had no idea how to take care of a cat, and the kitten itself wasn't very autonomous yet. Luckily, someone else did know what to do.
As if she had been watching him for ages, Cynaeric stepped out of the shadows. The Pearlcatcher dragon gave off a sense of calm and wisdom, making Asim comfortable enough to ask for help with his tiny friend. Although Asim at the time didn't understand how Cynaeric did it - having never seen any magic before - it was clear that Cynaeric could keep the kitten alive, conjuring milk and putting protective spells on it.
And so, their friendship started. Asim was overcome with joy that his little friend would be able to grow up strong and healthy, and Cynaeric seemed to be very relieved to have found Asim. It turned out that the Pearlcatcher has a very special sort of orb - one that would bring visions and direction to Cynaeric. She said it was no coincidence she was around when the dragon and the cat were born, and that she was meant to find the one with the spots all over.
The dragons and the cat travelled together, with Asim learning more and more about Cynaeric's visions. Cynaeric explained that after finding the spotted one, they would find a rock together that looked just like him.
So they travelled, and they travelled some more, and Asim and the cat both grew bigger and stronger (although one of them a little more so than the other). After jokingly asking Cynaeric whether her fortune telling orb had a name in mind, Asim decided to name the cat Magnet, for he stuck like a magnet to him and never left his side.

It wasn't long after that when the group had found what they were looking for. In the distance, blocking the warm sun and casting a huge shadow in front of it, was an enormous boulder. Darkened spots were scattered all over the rock, making it stand out from it's surroundings. This was what they had been searching for. Asim never had any intentions of leaving Cynaeric. She was good company, and he owed her Magnet's life, the life of the very first thing he cared for. It simply didn't occur to him that he was free to explore the rest of the world. He wanted to be here, because it felt right. There was also the thing where Cynaeric said that it was his destiny. But mostly because it just felt right. Two friends and a cat was all that was needed to form the Spotted Rock clan. And thus, the path to many more stories had opened. |

- The idea of Magnet is based on Cinspawn's cat, Caleb, who was born on July 2nd 2015: a day before Asim!
- It turns out 'asim' is short for sour (maasim) in Tagalog! Combined with Asim's lemon primary, this is a funny coincidence. (Thanks Ami!)
