ELIOR
Paladin | Valiant | Narcissistic | Lawful Good mate: NONE | PAIR RANGE Name from Hebrew, meaning "My God is Light". He shouldn’t be here. Elior knows in his heart of hearts that he absolutely should not be here. He is a soldier of truth and justice, a disciple of the Lightweaver herself, born in the auspicious hours of her festival and raised with her divine guidance. There is no reason under Sornieth’s blazing sun that he should be in the Tangled Wood, and yet here he is, weapons drawn not against the bold heathens lurking in the forest, but against his own kind. The kind that turned on him. A ferocious paladin and capable warrior, he served valiantly in the Lightweaver’s legions for a time, proving himself time and again that he was more than fit to defend her glorious territory. He was unstoppable in combat, unflappable, unmoved, and so when tragedy struck, decimating the forces he led into the Hewn City at his commanding officer’s orders, he took the blame. What few paladins remained at his side swore to their superiors that they had seen Elior himself leading their companions into the dark for slaughter, his voice honey sweet all the while. Yet Elior had spent the entire expedition locked in combat with a demonic spirit that towered over him, lashing out with bony fingers edged in darkness even as it wished him well. He never once saw his party after they split up, and despite his protests, he was exiled into the Tangled Wood, banished from the Lightweaver’s ranks. Deep in the wood, the Clan of the Crystal Toadstool took him in, citing a mission to protect travelers from the forest’s many dangers. Skeptical at first, but with nowhere else to go, Elior accepted their help. However, in order to earn his keep, he has become a sword for hire, dispensing Shadow Flight justice in the dark undergrowth. Not once has he completed a task that soothed his soul and reminded him of home; he finds the denizens of the Tangled Wood to be cheats and liars and crooked creatures far below himself, and to serve their whims just to guarantee shelter for himself is a heavy blow to his pride. And yet what choice does he have? Should he venture back to the Sunbeam Ruins, he will be killed on sight for a crime he did not commit. It troubles him deeply that his righteous home is as blind to truth and justice as the scoundrels who live by the glowshrooms’ light, and some days, he wonders if the Lightweaver’s lands are really his home at all. Despite his doubts, he continues to fight for the Clan of the Crystal Toadstool, patiently saving up treasure to purchase safe passage into the Sunbeam Ruins. He cannot let the murders of his fellow soldiers go unsolved as they are, and though it means associating with his personal definition of scum, he intends to do whatever it takes to restore his honor and rank.
